Doyle for Spearing or wait 12 months for him to lead our L1 promotion push.

 

I'd take that right now, Spearing would boss games in league 2 with his eyes shut, the sort of player we are missing. Would also improve players around him.

 

He’s a average league 2 player not good enough for us he used to be good but them days are gone

 

Our playing budget for this season is most certainly top three - again.

A bit of gossip, a possible loan player from Liverpool has been discussed between the clubs. Don't know who but it's come back to me via a Scouse friend who is the parent of one of Anfield's pretty high up employees, someone I've met personally a few times. Yesterday didn't do any harm as the lead up to the day created quite a few channels of communication and the managers have apparently chatted quite a few times and get on well. If I hear any more.......

 

I'd be surprised if we got a loan from Liverpool considering they are one of the strictest with regards to fines, loan fees and wage contributions.

I imagine the bridges we built on Sunday can't have done any harm in that regard. Not many L2 clubs would have Liverpool youngsters playing in front of a 15k gate on a weekly basis.

 

Bit worried from tactics seen so far we won’t sign much more out wide. Ismail or Donaldson on left with Patrick as cover. Shudder, I know. Then scannel down right with Donaldson moving over if needed

We will possibly sign a young striker as extra cover if doyle goes

 

I'd take Nathaniel Phillips straight away, would definately do well in League 2 with his height and strength. Plus he's 22 and still not in Liverpool's first team, could be that part in his career where it's a make or break situation.

 

Surely you mean Gibson rather than Donaldson?

 

Explain your reasons for putting someone with as good a goal record as Donaldson on the left wing? He'll cause havoc at Centre Forward at L2 level if fit and gets decent service.

 

No way will Donaldson play on the left. Not a chance.

 

I'm a bit worried by the thought that we might be playing 4-3-3 this season. I'd assumed that Donaldson and Vaughan would have been the first names on the teamsheet with Scannell on the right in a 4-4-2 but that doesn't seem to be Bowyer's thinking. I think Donaldson playing wide would be a great waste. But what do I know.

 

At 22 I doubt he will drop all the way down to L2. That's a big drop from leaving the European Champions.

But if he was then he could be a sound investment if permanent, on loan, then no thanks. Rather develop our own players like French.

 

Donaldson played on the right of a front 3 for Brentford so maybe that's what will happen with scannell on the left.

 

I see Jonathan Obika has gone on trial at Stevenage. Always seemed to have been decent enough, released by Oxford and looking for a new club. I think we could do worse than to have a look at him. Hes only 28

 

I too have always rated him at this level.

However, he does strike me as a southern club player - I doubt he’d make the move North of Watford-gap.

 

I must admit the thought had crossed my mind. I could sort of understand the game yesterday to pack the midfield (although Henley often had 3 on 1) but we lined up with one up top against guiseley and i just feel it a waste with doyle, Donaldson and vaughan if we were to go into the season playing one up front.

I actually thought we may have tried to match up our first 11 against their stronger side yesterday, i know its early days but we arent learning much playing patrick out wide and Doyle in midfield.

 

Update from the Bolton press that Conway and Pringle are there for training/fitness only, not with a view to signing.

Not that they look like coming out of Admin anytime soon. Less than 3 weeks to the season starting and as it stands they’ll have 6-7 “pros” with the rest being youth players. Surely looking at a second successive relegation for them.
