Whilst I agree that French had a good 45 minutes, you have to bear in mind that it was against a passing team who did not sling balls into the box to challenge for. Last week at Guiseley he did not look as comfortable against physical opposition. However I do agree that he looks a good prospect but one I think who may need some time to come to terms with the needs of the Division and not a ready made saviour for a guaranteed starting place from day one.

How would we get the ball to middle of the park then?

I thought he did well against Guiseleys physical approach. I might be wrong as the view wasn't great but he seemed to win the vast majority of his challenges and usually used the ball well once he had it at his feet.

I agree he'll probably need some time to adjust to league 2 though. It's a big step up for the lad and to put too much pressure, too early on him could be very detrimental.

Without shifting the ball around the back 4 and the box when we're sat deep I don't see how?

Possibly a fair comment, though for me Kent was constantly out wide as well, possibly forcing him narrow.

We're talking about 2 different scenario's I think. I'm talking about playing out from inside the box, not outside.

Why would we be sat deep? By sitting deep you're inviting pressure. Push your full backs out wide, have your 2 centre backs the width of the d or further apart and play the ball to Palmer - he then starts off the move. Or play it wide to the full backs. Or play it to the centre half. Or play it wide to a winger. Or play it long to Donaldson. Plenty of options.

Craig Conway and Ben Pringle on trial at Bolton.
Doesn’t look like Wheater has signed for Salford yet. Still hoping!

Pringle was always unbelievable for Rovrum against us, ran the show for them every time we played them. Wand of a left foot too!

“What normally happens”. Doesn’t mean it always does. If they are trained right and set up for it, it will work.

Not going to work 100% of the time but I’d sooner we do it that way than lump it and lose the ball

I think you're both debating either end of the spectrum here though. We can still focus on ball retention whilst not taking too many risks in and around our own box and we can still go long at times without being a hoofball team.

The truth is that we'll have to adopt more than one style and mix it up, certainly over the season, and more than likely, during individual games.

You are right but we shouldn’t abandon it all together

Correct. I'm probably only talking maybe 15 yards from where started the play yesterday. For me, starting play from within your won box at our level is far too dangerous. We don't have to be a hoofball team, you can get various positions involved in reaching the ball.

By making the correct decisions when both on and off the ball.
Nowt wrong with playing the ball out, so long as it's wide, and 'safe' to do so.

Average signings at best aside from Mayor, looks like lazy recruitment if you ask me.

Thought he looked ok for his first twenty minutes but he looks very unfit. We saw him as he arrived he is a big unit if he can get back to what he was he might be useful

Conway would be a good signing but probably out of our price bracket

Not necessarily if he's on trial at Bolton who can't afford a bag of crisps.

Yep. We could have to move on Doyle for that to happen.

If Hippolyte puts in a few good performances then he could be ok. We definitely need another winger.
