Is the Steve Austin reference a bit of an in joke? They call him the ‘Scunthorpe rattlesnake’ on the facebook video. Seen Cook use a few WWE references before too.

 

Nah it’s the tease about Charlie Austin, they’ll flash back to this hint when he’s finally announced.

 

Does the length of the deals say anything in particular? Most are 2 years with an option. Does this mean Hughes thinks the squad might not be quite ready for the autos but wants to keep the majority for another run the next year?
Or he thinks they’re good enough to go up but not sure about them in league 1?

 

If it's because he doesn't think they are quite ready for the autos, I'd seriously be questioning why we are offering them deals at all, never mind at least 2 year ones. We've been told the budget this year is better than last year's (which was top 5). We are in league 2 with allegedly one of the best budgets in the league, if we are signing players that are not quite good enough to get us promoted then we might as well all give up on next season now before a ball is kicked.

we are signing players that the manager thinks will get us promoted obviously. The length of contract will depend on how much the manager wants a certain player

 

Maybe Hughes is looking for some stability by offering 2 year deals.

A few of the signings so far look like they are to plump up the squad.

 

Most players want a bit of security. I'm not sure we'd get too many to sign on one year deals.

 

so far , all the new players are young lads with promise. If they improve under Mark Hughes and co's coaching , we are laughing , possible sell on and hopefully promotion as well.

 

We would not get younger developers on anything less than 2 years. The only ones we would get on a one year would be …pension pot fillers in the main.

GK, RB, CB, CM (maybe 2), AM/WG x2 (minimum) and another forward needed.

Only say another GK as Lewis is an unknown, and Hornby is just a none league keeper who will either accept another year as a backup or leave this summer, think Hughes would want an experienced challenger for Lewis rather than Hornby. Reckon Threlkeld will be gone, cant see Scales getting in many squads, dunno yet about seeing Staunton will depend on his pre-season to impress.

 

Aye, don't think you far off with that assessment. Obviously if the 3 offered deals surprise us and stay then the landscape is different. I am pretty sure I have seen Hendrie has signed, just not announced.

GK - Deffo agree.
RB - Yeh, ideally we shift on Threlkeld, Hendrie back up and get a new one.
CB - Kelleher can go for me, but we need at least 1 more. Guessing Songo is now there permanent.
CM - East looks like a Watt replacement, Gilli and Sutton in there too. Songo if needed. 1 more required.
AM/WG - Think Dion returns. With Gilli, Young and Angol able to play wide I'm not sure we sign anymore than 2.
ST - Yep, deffo 1 more. A marquee needed.

 

Revelation from the D Mac podcast. He’s pitched two Posh players to us and Elliot Watt’s agent has been in touch with them-so mark Watt as off if touting around after our contract offer

 

I hope decisions are made shortly on the out of contract players before we miss out on decent replacements

 

Don’t worry Gareth bale has just said he’s leaving Real Madrid ,he’s on his way to us

 

Any indication who the Posh players were he was going on about “two players who would help us get promotion” the other week

 

I agree we can’t give them all summer, or we’ll be the ones who lose out. There could well be better out there in the huge free agent pool anyway tbh, it’s not Wells we’re trying to replace.

 

I've not heard the podcast but he says Watt's agent has been in touch with them? That's p#ss poor form in my opinion, making that public
