It might depend if Vernam signs. If he does we've already got a few options in the supporting 3 and I'm assuming JP will be on decent money.

I certainly wouldn't mind him here but perhaps the bigger chunk of the budget might have to go elsewhere?

Only thing with signing Jonny Williams is you know you're going to get half a season from him due to his injuries. He is 28 years old and this seasons 24 starts at Swindon is the most games he's ever started in a league season, had a lot of sub appearances but Garner seems to have been the first manager he's had to manage his workload properly. He only completed 90 minutes 7 times all season.

Knee and hamstring injuries seem to happen a lot through his career, spent 6 months out a few years back with shoulder issues. Had knee surgery again in 2019. He had a bad leg break when he was 18 at palace and since then, he just cant stay fit. He was on the Sunderland till i die netflix show whilst he was there and had an interview on the physio bench about how injuries have control him. Very talented player, especially at this level, but it will be a big wage for a bloke who you cant expect to start at least two thirds of your fixtures.

 

I’ll leave it there then…we have just seen two seasons of similar, so no imho.

Fair point but I believe JP has played a bit deeper for Swindon this year occupying a centre midfield role. Williams, previously mentioned is playing behind the front men. He won't be on peanuts but if Swindon can afford his wages no reason why we can't. Walker and Payne could really be the difference with the goals they bring from midfield.

And I'm adamant Vernam is off anyway. Lincoln looks a safe bet.

 

Looks like the announcement on Jake Young is incoming. Simon Parker has written a piece....the picture of him in city gear being interviewed wasnt enough for some folk, they were saying it was Foulds (lol) so hopefully this confirms.

He’s Swindon’s highest paid player - on just over £5k per week. Which sounds about right, as he was on £12k per week at Huddersfield and Lincoln don’t pay peanuts, either.

 

£5k, really, well that might be a struggle then. That said I would rather have Payne and Scales than Cooke and Evans. Similar difference in wages you would think. Top player and a youth than two average joes.....quality over quantity.

Where would Payne fit in? Presumably as a replacement for either Vernam or Perreira, either side of a front 3? Are he and Walker too similar...?

 

He has played deeper for Swindon, centre midfield this season (I believe). He can certainly offer himself more advanced as well if needed. Ticks a lot of boxes for me....CM, AM, LW...take ya pick.

He's a good player, no doubt. But he'd be a big wage, so he'd need to have an obvious 'fit' for the system. I'm assuming we'll still go with the 4231 system. Walker at 10. He wouldn't be a replacement for Watt. Could he be a replacement for Gillead? Maybe, though Gilly seems to have found his niche in that role. To my mind he's probably most suited to doing what Perreira did. Left footed player playing off the right. In fact, he's probably a better version of Perreira and not dissimilar in style.

 

Well in order to get promoted we do need options. If Gilliead or Perreira (he possibly returns) has to fall to the bench I see that as very capable back up when needed.

 

He was on £5K when they were in L1 from the looks of the 20/21 books, but the entire squad had a relegation wage cut, so probably been on £4K a week this season. Barnsley wanted him in the summer, now they've dropped to L1 i wouldn't be surprised if they didn't try again.

For Jonny Williams, he's apparently on £2.5K a week, but it's a heavily incentives based deal.

 

Wonder where Harry Mc will go? Judging by his Instagram posts, he’d like a move to Chelsea. Good player, but absolute bell end. He won’t have endeared many fans by giggling and laughing at his penalty miss. I know it was wry and all that, but proves he’s got a bit of a personality disorder. Maybe that miss will bring him down a peg or two.

Different manager now. But if they are still in for him then we have no chance. He is more likely to go to L1 in all fairness, but if he is available and we have a chance then Id love us to make a move.
