It was, several posts I've read in this thread with regards the Miller rumour are doing just that.

I'd say if the rumour has any credibility then of course fans posting they wouldn't have him back are questioning Hughes and his backroom staffs judgement, I also posted we all have our opinions and they are entitled to their although I disagree.

Not at all. Any striker that signs for a 4th division side is there for a reason but wherever they are at in their careers, some come good, some don't. We've found that out with all the different types of striker we've had while playing in L2 over the years: from Ross Hannah to Nahki Wells, Peter Thorne to Theo Robinson or Michael Boulding to James Vaughan. There isn't really a blueprint for success when it comes to 4th division strikers, you've just got to trust that the manager is signing a player that best fits into their plan and hope it clicks.

Of course that would be bad business but that wasn't what I was suggesting. I've said previously that Cook is a player that wants to be starting every game and I don't think he'd be happy playing second fiddle. It's all ifs and buts at the moment but what I'm suggesting wouldn't be a bad bit of business is if Cook was told he was free to look for another club, found one, left, and Miller came in as his replacement.

Quite a few on here thought Lewis O'Brien was an "headless chicken". He was a young lad in a team that was only heading in one direction. The runs he makes off the ball in a good side would look totally different.

If we play one up top he needs to be someone with Angol's qualities, strong, mobile with a good first touch. The key thing though is that three behind need to get close to him to link up and not leave him isolated when he gets the ball, that's why Jamie Walker is a good signing, plus a good replacement for Vernam if he doesn't stay.

It's all about opinions, that's what footy forums are about. Although I thought Miller was a better player than many (including me at the time) thought, I wouldn't be going for him if I was involved in the recruitment.
Having said that he's older now and I trust Mark Hughes/Glynn Hodges judgement above mine.

Alan Connell had scored 25 in the Conference which was nowhere near the standard it is now. And funnily enough managed 11 in L2 the season after, 1 less than Miller this season. You casually didn't mention the above....

Care to share their League One records by comparison???

Me too. Having said that didn't we once sign a player from non league who had scored 50 goals the previous season who didn't do much for us. The problem is that if you sign a proven scorer from the National League it will normally mean a fee plus big wages these days, anybody with a proven record below that level is a gamble.
I think Hughes and Hodges will be looking at players who will fit the system they want to play rather than someone with a good recent scoring record. Andy Cook and Danny Rowe come with good non league scoring records and had limited success.
We may all have got it wrong. Perhaps Stefan Rupp has provided the funds for Mark Hughes to push the boat out on a major signing......sharp intake of breath.

Our summer business will need to be judged in the round. We need to add more quality, but we'll also need to add at least a couple of squad players. Not every signing will necessarily bowl us over. And for once, any signings we make will be highly likely to join on the basis of how they fit into a system rather than what they bring in isolation.

I'd far rather sign a striker who typically scores 15 a season but fits the system, than a 'more proflific' striker like an Eoin Doyle that doesn't.

I wouldn't really want us to sign Miller. But would he have contributed more last season than the combination of Lavery and Robinson? He probably would. So if we add someone like that, plus a 'quality' forward to replace Elliot and Delfouneso, we'll be much better off than last season.

The problem with last season transfers is that Adams had us on the back foot with his STUPID thoughts about the loan market and not using it until Jan.

This time I expect decent loan signings to come in that will make a difference and add to the squad.

Let's try to sign players that are used too and can cope with 17k+ home crowds like Walker, Darby(in the day) etc. This is vital to more us forward because some of the players like join us because of the big crowd but look like a rabbit in a headlight when they see it.

We need quality in key areas that we lack such as Keeper, forward, full backs at this moment.

I agree but I think we’ll struggle to loan a decent forward, think back to all our best young loans I can’t remember any been a striker. Probably the best two loanees in this division this season were Anderson at Bristol Rovers and Longstaff at Mansfield again both midfielders. The more prolific youngsters will most likely start higher up than league 2 unfortunately. I’d consider trying for a talented keeper, centre back, holding midfielder and winger on loan which would hopefully save us enough to bring in a better striker who won’t freeze in front of our crowd.

Anyone who knows football would have seen him stand out straight away. Came into the side with no first team experience and looked better than the long time pros in midfield. The lad will be in the premiership next season.

He finished well if you see the thread in the end they seemed to think he would prosper playing alongside another striker rather than on his own

Interesting the players it's reported Sparkie wants to keep or resign Angol, Walker Vernah and Pereira were brought in during Adams time at the club who'd have thought it.

I believe in this instance Adams was right you get more from loan signings from January when their thoughts are turning to new contracts and fighting for places for the following season

Funny old game Leeds were reported to have been interested, as you say he'll be in the Premiership next season possibly with Town but maybe not Leeds.
