I disagree with your comment though. Of course it's Gilleads job to carry the ball when possible. He's a central midfielder not a goalkeeper!

I honestly don't think it's being unrealistic to expect my central midfielders to carry the ball right up to halfway inside the oppos half of they are determined to back off and defend deep. Its the same with the full backs and the only way we'll create overloads in attacking areas.

 

It is funny how some people can think that a CB who played during our rare times in the Top 2 divisions could be worse than our normal times in the bottom division.

 

Are you OK yourself? You quoted Jason Gavin-I never mentioned Rehman. But see you have in another post. But yes equally as poor. Recall Sas at Southend away, where we got free coach travel, having an absolute mare. We ragged a 0-0 IIRC.

 

Never said that it wasn't "when possible". He's done that plenty of times. He'll often bust through and although then plays the ball backwards - net forward progression has been made.

Yours and others criticising his pass completion abilities, have proven to be unfounded.

Following that for some reason you want to concentrate on other areas, i.e. anything so you can prove he's a poor as you state.

In his central midfield road, for L2 level, he has been fine. Of course he could be better - so could every other player.

For seasons we've need two 'sitting' (and please I don't mean literally) so we can dominate possession. The last few seasons of us been swamped in the second half, because we have no midfielders who played that role, have long gone.

This conversation regarding the midfield pairing being the issue as to us not winning games is naive at best. The midfield duo, whether it is Smallwood & East or Smallwood & Gillead does the job. They retain possession, Protect the defence an cover the miles over the course of the game.

Our Fundamental issue is what we do once the ball leaves the feet of our CMs. The answer is not much. Based on recent performances, the only person that can create something is Banks. We all know the situation with Angol an the full backs haven’t been that good either. We’re also missing our main CAM in Walker who is sidelined for a bit longer. That is why we have brought back in Periera. Another winger who can attack the opposition at a different angle compared to Banks

A player who can intercept, tackle, pass, score & assist from the middle of the pitch would not be in League Two. Our CMs do their job. Its up to the wingers an the other attackers to create the chances

Who was saying they were worse? It's all relative to the standard they were playing at. You can be a shit CH in the Championship but be a POTS in league 2.

 

Some wannabe Kurtis Guthrie … Dean or Dion summat or other.

 

I didn't mention his pass completion to be fair. I imagine it will be reasonably decent but pass completion won't tell much of story anyway if 95% of them are short sideways and backwards passes.

My biggest criticism is that he's playing within himself and far too safe. He's got more ability than he currently shows and it frustrates me that he seems to be reluctant to express it.

How did you get big GR to do free travel then?

 

I get it that a lot of people saying we need better in midfield but personally I think we're ok there, I know there all a bit defensive minded and not much flair there but I think this has only been highlighted mainly due to us being toothless upfront, but hopefully with the 2 new guys coming in this should improve us up front and enable our midfielders to tackle, protect and give the the ball to the players who can create. Also with regards to the few suggesting we upgrade the full back positions, I think we are also fine there too as we have 4 steady can do a job in L2 full backs in our squad, which is all we need there.

The travel thing I was just a bit of a nerd and wrote a letter suggesting he gave travel to Southend at cost price because of the size of the match - in the theory that a bigger away following would work in our favour.
Then (much to the delight of my abusive mates) he plastered my name in his programme comments thanking me for the letter and offering free travel to the two matches.
Didn’t work, we got a draw and a hiding at Pompey!

That's even worse. Kulscar got a great move to QPR who paid £250,000 for him and he also won 3 International caps for Australia who weren't actually a bad side in the late 90's, early 2000's.

Oh, and there's the fact that he was also a centre midfielder and not a centre half which is probably the clincher.

 

I seem to remember Lee Sinnott being a target for Boo boys back in the late 80’s early 90’s.

then we had Damian Stewart who was very poor for us but then got a good move to QPR.

And Luke Oliver was so poor at CB they moved him up to CF where he was equally poor.

 

As yourself once we heard Hughes had been in early to Luton for Dion and his unfinished business comment I was confident he'd return.
Remember Josh Cullen saying the same thing and turning down better clubs to come back to Valley Parade for unfinished business, I prefer to go up as Champions or auto but if push comes to shove I'll take a day out at Wembley.
