In fact it's all become clear to me now . If we want to keep possession but not create very much - play Gilliead. If we are prepared to forsake some possession and take a few more risks in the attacking third - play Sutton. Simples.

At last you acknowledge the strength of Sutton in that is exactly what he does pushing the midfield forward allowing the forwards and wingers to stay up front. We need someone better in that position I will agree but until then he does a good job

I don’t see him as any better than what we have , however in fairness, his return of 4 goals in 11 league games shouldn’t be sniffed at. It says to me Mansfield didn’t want him if he’s gone on loan to Colchester until Jan. He’s from Rotherham where his family is , coupled with Mansfield’s highly likely promotion challenge compared to Colchester , it’s odd that Newcastle said yes to Colchester?

 

You don’t know what I mean. Both are long term injuries! There is no point in picking a side with them in it as it’s likely we won’t see Osadebe for months. Walker not as long hopefully but you get my drift?

 

I thought you had given up, and now someone mentions Sutton and you are back on the midfield maestro, general , defence unlocker bandwagon again, , him with 2 goals and zero assists over 40 appearances.

He’s got drive yes , but little ball control and no end product. Remember he came in from the right against Wed, free in the box, more or less a 1 on 1 with the keeper and what did he do, toe poke it into the side netting.

 

at least he got himself into that position instead of strolling around in our half passing sideways....just saying

Why no point picking a side that isn't fit? Just nice to look at that and think damn when players are fit that squad just looks nasty! Something to look forward to!

I would like Sutton to find the form he had before his illness

 

Says the guy who loved the worst centre back in the club's history. It's reassuring you do not rate Sutton as it shows he is doing the job for the team he was picked for and if given more games would get better until we sign a better player

 

He will only do that given a run of games not on the bench most of the times. He used to make good runs from the wing but now we have wingers his job is to win the ball and pass forward playing just behind the forwards to recycle the ball

 

I don't 100 % agree with that Trev. I think what he does well is gives and goes and makes runs behind the defence, creating chances for himself if someone can pick the pass, or occupying defenders to give others more space

 

We've had so many poor CB's during my time watching, i.e. nearly 50 years - that you'll have to remind me who you mean.
