I think that's a fair assessment, not how good Diamond and Harrogate were but how poor and inept we were with regards taking our chances that night.

 

Who knows, maybe Diamond could be enticed by the style and commitment of our play, following last night's game?

 

That a bold statement. How many times have you actually seen him play? A few games against some very poor City sides?

 

We know as a friendly we shouldn't read too much into it, but the majority of stuff we did last night was attack minded, I was more than happy the way we went about our business on the night.

MH would not play Diamond in Walkers position, so that makes a nonsense of the comment he would be first choice in ANY of the three positions behind the striker. On last nights showing he was crap centrally. Everyone agrees , even Sunderland’s own fans.

Jamie Walker is way ahead of Jack Diamond and having seen Harratt and Young four times in pre season and at various points last season (as with Diamond both on tv and at Harrogate), he is no better than any we’ve got!

 

I’m not so sure he’s overrated, his stats would say he’s performed over multiple seasons at this level with his goal and assist return and although we were bad he didn’t get that many against us!

But your final question is very fair, psychology is massive in sport and we’ve seen players only perform at small clubs, so in scouting any player we do need to start take this into consideration as Parky was good at but not many before or after.

I’ve probably mentioned it 100 times on this forum before but my boss is a Sunderland fan and he rated him probably less than we rated someone like Danny Devine, it really wouldn’t surprise me if they looked to get shut. But like you say he’s looked terrible at a big club with big expectations(granted with limited game time) and very good at a club which tbh has no real fans and most probably go when Leeds or Bradford aren’t at home.

 

There could be some good loan options coming free at the end of August when teams manage to get some deals over the line for first XI players and the likes of Diamond and Pereira decide they don't want to sit on the bench.

 

Maybe we could swap Threlkeld for Diamond. Just a hopeful thought

 

Even more likely as PL2 changes from u23 to u21 this season, so they'll be a lot of 22/23 year olds with contracts that clubs will either release or loan.
