I don’t think Sunderland rate Diamond at all, now they’ve gone up as well it wouldn’t surprise me if they look to get rid. Certainly worth a big imo, it’s practically a north east team as it is so he wouldn’t be home sick!

 

I agree and mentioned this on the match thread. I think he needs to move permanently away from Sunderland now

 

Neil did an interview in their paper a few days back saying he's going to give Diamond a fair crack in pre season but it's up to him to impress. Chronicle hinted he will be loaned out once more once everyones fit again for them. Neil played him up front last night and did the same against Dundee. The sunderland commentary team last night kept pointing out its not his position and they need at least 2 forwards in asap. Think they have a winger or two injured too, so until signings come in and one or two are fit again, Diamond isn't going anywhere it seems.

If he leaves, it's looking like a late window move similarly like Pereiras situation.

 

If Staunton is going to get any kind of game time this season aside the PJT it's going to have to be in midfield as I don't see how he gets ahead of Ridhalgh and Foulds at left back or Crichlow and Odusina at LCB. I don't see Songo'o ever playinng in a Mark Hughes midfield unless we've not got another option as he's not good enough with the ball at his feet so CB is the only position I can see him playing.

 

Staunton needs to go out and play 40 times this season. Pointless having him lurking around playing 3 or 4 times before we are out of all the cup comps in November. Think he's 21 this season and needs to start having some proper time under his belt, other than being the best of a bad bunch for a month about two yeas ago under McCall.

 

Quite so, the main comment about Diamond seems to be he can't play with his back to goal, he needs to drive at defences (like with Harrogate), Neil will have his views but the fans seem to have decided he's not even a L1 player.

 

I can't see us going for Diamond and if he is loaned out again it's going to have to be at a league 1 club to test him ,it's pointless keeping him in league 2 for another season or half a season as he's never going to develop. If Diamond doesn't show any decent form in league 1 then I can see them selling him in January.

 

He's like a longer legged version of Sutton. They both have great engines. Happy both of them are in our squad. I often look similar players in opposing teams and wish we had them!

 

If he moves permanently though I could see him going to a league two club in the same way that Chapman came to us for example.

 

Do I take it that Mark Lawns comments at BPA regarding "Big news" were just the ramblings of a drunk.

 

Diamond was a league 1 player last year but couldn’t make their team so was loaned out what makes you think he is a league 1 player now ?

 

maybe sunderland might loan diamond to us with an option to buy at the end of the season

 

that being said, I don’t remember much of Diamond last season. Albeit, my attention was on the amount of chances we missed against harrogate an how shit in general our team was playing

 

Maybe he was on about the black and white away kit.
Not Andy Carrol, Shane Long or Mezut Ozil.

 

I personally don't but from a Sunderland point of view they need to decide what to do with him and by him going to league1 and he doesn't kick on then it's time to get shut. He will not improve himself by spending 3 seasons playing at league2 level .

 

But that seems to be his level at this moment in time . If Sunderland thought he wasn’t good enough for them last season why would anyone else take a chance on him in league 1

 

Seems to be a clamour for City to sign Diamond based on performances agains us last season.
Based on pre season performances for us - we’ve got loads of options up front, out wide, no 10 and not sure Diamond would be an improvement on any of them, so would be nothing more than a bench warmer.
Last season he’d have walked into the team - not so sure he’d be guaranteed a place on the bench now.
