This is the trouble on here rumours appear and are spread without any real foundation they then turn into facts and then people us it as a stick to beat the club with

In terms of outgoings, I can see Threlkeld being moved on. Hasn’t shown any attributes that imply he’d fit into the team Hughes is trying to build

With Colin Doyle on standby as backup, I can see Hornby being moved on, whether that be a loan or a permanent. He ain't gonna play any games this season

And If we do end up signing another striker, I think its safe to say Cook will be off. Especially if we only plan on playing 1 up top all season

As for Incomings. We need to fill the RW slot. I’d love to see Dion Pereria back. He only contributed in the last 10 or so games but he clearly showed the potential that Luton see in him. An I can definitely see him plying his trade in the Championship in the years to come if he gets a few full seasons under his belt.

There is the obvious talk of Smallwood, The midfield general that a team like this needs. It would be outstanding if it happens. But im not gonna get my hopes up. Regardless of how many ITK say its a done deal.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see the young CB from Hartlepool come in. As someone said before, Crichlow operated in a back 3. It could be a system Hughes wants to deploy from time to time. It would make sense to have an additional quality CB as backup. An its still unclear as to how Songo’o will fit into this team. Hughes will want his defenders to be able to play out from the back

In terms of the players signed, I think it’l take Lewis rime to settle in. His potential will be on display from early on but it may take him time to get into his stride.

Platt & Crichlow could end up being the main centre back pairing for next season. Both have good track records at their previous clubs, But it may take time for that partnership to grow.

Midfield worries me. I’ve not heard much about East, Osadabe is a flash in the pan an could very well be a squad player. Gillead an sutton are good players but not the finished articles. We need a senior leader there, Hopefully Smallwood

Harry Chapman will be one of our best signings. I think he’l hit the ground running

I can see Young being someone to bring on from the bench most weeks. I think Harratt will become one of our more potent attackers this year

As for the rest. Im expecting Big things from Eisa this year. He’l of fully recovered from his injuries by now, an could turn out to be a very good player for us. Will also be interesting to see Walker firing on all cylinders with a full pre season behind him

I think most of us knew those players weren't good enough when they signed.

There was the customary 'wait until they play' posts in their favour, but that's about it.

However with Gary Jones and Andrew Davies, it looked likely we'd made quality signings

    But a mix is reassuring.

At this point that's all we're talking about, whether we're reassured or confident or not. At the minute, I'm erring on the side of 'not overly reassured'. It seems to upset others, but they'll pull through!

Simple question Jon, rather than err on any side, you are slightly pessimistic, I see that, should we not err on the “wait and see”side and let’s see the sum of these individuals become a whole and be optimistic?

Remember when Hughes came in he took a team of aimless individuals and by the end had the same crew playing well?

Games are looming fast and there will be lots of bodies still to go in and out of the VP revolving door,

Now a rest from this and a days fishing !

Have a good day fishing Kevin!

At the end of the day it doesn't make any difference how we feel or which way we err or even what we think of our players. Our minds will change over the course if the season. The season hasn't started though, so a opinions are equally valid.

But we're back at the preseason hysteria stage where some analysis is anathema to other posters... Who knows why...

Imagine getting annoyed that someone thought a player wouldn't be much good, or thinking doubts represented a meltdown!

Last season was the same; some posters just have a natural urge to shout down 'negativity', even though it's often been proved well placed and accurate.

Remember Adams last season? A winner making all the right moves!

Anyway, good point about Hughes turning a poor side round at the end of the season. More of that please.

As I said before, my main worry is how long it might take such a young group to click, gel, and cut out potential mistakes - given promotion is the aim, I'd personally like to see steady, reliable, experienced heads start to walk through the door. A bevvy of 23 year olds who often play 20 games a season doesn't fill me with confidence.

You dont need superstars to win promotion from L2.

Look at some of the shite that has gone up in recent years.

Odusina has played 6 more games in the EFL than Crichlow, hardly a massive amount more experience.

Crichlow has also played 4 games in the Championship

One lad is coming in from the championship, one possibly from league 2, both having played similar amounts at the same level. Without watching them both every week, how can anyone say one is better than the other.
Its a fresh start for all, give them a chance to show what they are capable of.

I don't get why people were beating the Odusina drum, either.

I agree with you, I can't really see much difference on paper. It's slightly worrying that Crichlow couldn't get into a non-league team as recently as when he was 20, but things change.

I'm going to feel a lot, lot better when I know we're not pretending Songo'o is an experienced CB.

This kid must have missed the memo on his 150 games for Plymouth where a vast amount he operated at CB...

In his career 130 games at DM and 114 at CB. Folk need to research before making silly statements.

He did reasonably well in the last few games. Poor season overall though.

Derek Adams saying he's a trier was the most accurate thing anyone's said about him.

Adams relying on players like Threlkeld and Songo'o is one of the major reasons he's no longer manager, at the end of the day, and if we're relying on either - especially in defence, which is arguably the most vital part of any team at L2 level - then we're on a hiding to nothing.

I’m the last person to beat the club ,I am not in the Rupp out camp or despise Sparks, as a few certain posters do on here. I just think we are going to need an experienced head in the team and if we sign Smallwood as some posters claim is a done deal, then I will be content. However when I see us linked with a young midfielder from Sheffield Utd who’s played 8 games for Notts county on loan then alarm bells start to ring regarding lack of a Smallwood signing.
