How experienced were John Hendrie, Martin singleton & gregg Abbot ?. Let's judge the team in October rather than june

Zak Brunt made 8 appearances for Notts county and 10 for Southend, hasn’t scored a goal in his career. If we’re signing this guy instead of Richie Smallwood it’s going to be a massive letdown. However it’s what City usually do.

Technically good, skilful. He's a Hughes type of signing.
A worry that Notts County didn't trust him in the play-offs.

I agree and I posted the same about Hendrie and co a few weeks ago when one of the new signings was criticised.Remember though that Cherry also brought in experience like Dave Evans, John Hawley. Just think we’re overdoing the young up and coming types and it’s a big gamble hoping they come off. I just hope we do sign someone with a lot of experience and quality like Smallwood, but hearing about us signing another young kid from Sheffield Utd makes me wonder if the Smallwood deal is dead or ever existed.

As someone said on the other forum - If this lad from Huddersfield and the Sheff Utd young un’ come in instead of Odusina and Smallwood then it stinks of the club leaking false rumours to sell season tickets again.

I think we will see Smallwood and another CB sign. I also think Watt will re-sign.

Reason I think Watt will sign is because realistically how many clubs will be willing to pay compensation, his wages, signing on fee and agents fees? I think he will sign a two year deal with clauses included about leaving if we don’t get promoted etc.

Once again he sounds like a very talented player if we sign him I think it would be to develop him.I am sure there will be an experienced signing in that area

I've been saying this all along. I can't see any League 1 clubs paying a decent fee for him, which we can demand.
Clubs don't like going to a tribunal where the fee could be anything.
I can see him signing a 2 year deal. That'll take him to 24 and he can benefit from freedom of movement after that.

Possibly the lad from Huddersfield is better than Odusina

We were moaning last year that Adams didn't use the loan market, now MH gets some value and some are unhappy.
Odusina - Pay a fee & probably decent wages
Critchlow - No fee, potentially done a deal with Town on wages

Maybe we've tried to agree a fee with Hartlepool and couldn't, so we moved on.

Could be or he may not be, we don’t know as with all players especially in the lower leagues they carry some what of a risk. My disappointment with this isn’t his ability, more that it’s another young loan from Huddersfield instead of a highly rated(by his clubs fans) defender on a two or three year deal who can forge a partnership at the club and we can build around. Huddersfield have form for pulling players back from loans early, this lad this season and Daly. We’ve signed two from there in key areas CB and striker, I doubt they’ve come to sit on the bench and if they do well they could be gone come January and we could be left we key areas to fill again. It happened to Newport 2 year ago and they went from 3rd to completely out of the playoffs.

It’s important to use the loan market, but not be reliant on it. Still the window is still early let’s see who else comes in. I’m skeptical about Smallwood as I don’t see why they’d hold it back when this signing would have probably got a better received had he been announced first. There’s no logic behind holding his signature back unless it’s made up or he’s away and can’t do the usual marketing stuff.

Agree with you here Sergio, based purely on my Hudders supporting mates. Last year when we got Daly they said it was a shame we didn't get Harratt. They expected him to be in the Town squad this coming season. I'm looking forward to seeing him play although I hope I'm not sat next to his dad :grinning:

Whilst I do agree with you about the perils of loans returning early and also the need to have continuity. However at this level loans are very important it helps stretch budgets and allows the possibility of getting players you normally couldn’t afford.
I think we need to see what the side looks like when recruitment has finished and judge it again but I really hope for at least one more loan in Dion. And I am confident there will be at least two more experienced pros brought in
