On their absolute best days I think AOC, POC, Staunton and Canavan are good a set of four to choose two centre halves from for League Two, the problem is the days they are at their best on come around about as often as Halley’s Comet.

I'd be releasing one of the O'Cs and trying to shift on the other. Staunton for me is also only back up unless we go to 3 at the back or he can force his way past Canavan on the left hand side.

 

AOC will hopefully go in the summer, Staunton,
and Sikora who is highly rated, should be allowed to develop as back ups and on loan and Paudie, he’s not kicked on as well as you’d hope and seems to vary between playing well and being a liability for me. He’s probably someone who will leave next year and become a Harrogate or Morecambe legend without ever really doing anything spectacular. I like him and hope he kicks on and becomes a City legend instead.

Whatever we all think about who should stay and go amongst the regular first team squad, for me, Sikora and Scales must stay - some real nascent talent there. And Charlie Wood should be promoted from the lads to the first team squad for next season, no doubt.

 

We go into next season with one player. Canavan. Everything else has to be rebuilt. We all wish it was otherwise but it isn't. We have to be ruthless.

 

We can’t dump them all unfortunately. Watt will be another season older as will Sutton. They’ll come good I’m sure. Both are quick of thought. Trouble is we have/had too many players who take an age to pass forward and take the easy option.

 

POC had a huge amount of improving to do before he can be a part of a promotion winning squad imo. His concentration levels seem horrendous with opposition strikers constantly running off him.

 

Exemplified by his ability to pick up a card. 18 in 60 for City

Give Canavan the captain’s armband, stick Paudie next to him, bolt on a big, vocal, hairy arsed nasty centre midfielder and I’m confident the positional and concentration issues will disappear from Paudies game. As teams keep proving in this league, it’s not about having the best players it’s about having the right blend, we don’t......
Decide on a system, keep the ones who not only fit into that system but will run through walls for the team, if Wood & AOC don’t have the right attitude then bin them both off.

I thought the kid Sikora did OK yesterday, the number of times he had the ball at his feet and was gesturing for someone to collect it was a joke in itself for a kid to be asking seasoned pros to make a run our come nearer to collect the ball, basic stuff.

 

First thing I noticed about him was his ability to pass backwards, fits in well....
