A player in the mould of Josh Cullen would be the perfect foil for Sutton. Someome who sits in the deep allowing Sutton to just run around, his unpredcitabiity is his asset. If you tie him down to a set midfield role, like in a midfield two, you stop a lot of what he's good at.

He's not good at much in my opinion. He does run around a lot, but its generally into other people and his control is terrible. He'd got value as a squad player, and he has nuisance factor, but if we want to be top 3 then we need better.

Worryingly the first touch of most of the team is terrible. The passing is so laboured, no wonder we started going long.

Talking about going long did you see Manchester Citys first goal, it reminded me very much of us ( but Mahrez finished his chance) p!ssing it about at the back, PSG push up forcing the Manchester City defender to play it back to Ederson then wellying it long upfield to De Bruyne who cuts it back across the box for Mahrez to eventually finish, ye a step up in quality but at times the long ball can pay dividend.

Major difference is Dave, it was a long pass by Ederson into an area where he knew there'd be a runner

So if its a Premier league player it's a long pass rather than a welly/hoof, I'll remember that next time mate ;).

He plays passes too many times for it to be hoofed

Have we now raised our transfer expectations to include Man City and PSG squad members? I'm sure that the likes of De Bruyne or Mahrez might constitute a marquee signing for us one day but until then I fail to see the relevance of a debate about their playing style to our Transfer 2021 thread. By all means have such a discussion in the General Footie section but let's keep this thread on topic. Ta.

Do you trust them to spend the budget for next year - even with Turnbull assisting? Personally I don't. Their inexperience will hamper their recruitment.

Only 5 players initially (1 x RB, 2 x CM and 1 or 2 x Winger) the rest are dependent on who stays or goes. My point on the tweaks was that I don’t think the starting XI is miles off and additions would be more focussed on depth/competition rather than a total overhaul of our entire match day squad.

What would your starting eleven be with the players you think would still be here?

Possibly their inexperience will be a problem, though with Turnbull being head of recruitment it should help. Whoever we get though recruitment is risky. Stuart used his I pad and said let’s hope something crops up. Bowyer blew most of his budget on Vaughan and Donaldson and that didn’t really work. It’s a gamble at our level and you need some luck that most of your signings work.

There's pissing about at the back and being obviously in control of the ball and the possession with options off the ball, and then there's pissing about at the back while looking harassed and about a millisecond away from giving away a goal while making passes a casual fan could predict.

I have to say, we've definitely looked the latter.

I appreciate your optimism, but honest to god, we are currently so far off the kind of strong powerful automatic promotion side that others will fear, it's untrue.

When I play a seven iron to the green, I’m hoping it hits the target. That’s Watt or Paudie. When Rory McIlroy hits a seven iron he knows it is going to hit the target. That’s Ederson and Man City.

The current starting XI is miles off. We have no strikers or full backs under contract, no alternative to Cooke, Watt or Sutton, one keeper who is more scared of crosses than vampires and one centre half of real quality. We need a whole new first team and the current players will supplement that. And since wet it getting that we need a good coaching team to get the limited players we will have promoted.

When I hit a seven iron to the green, I'm just hoping it goes feckin forwards.....
