We'll have to agree to disagree on Sutton then. He's the only one who can be on the edge of our box making a tackle and then in the opposition box seconds later. Compare him to Watt, who I rate, who has umpteen yellow cards because someone's run past him, he's been slow to turn, and he's had to hack them down.

Assuming Cooke is best as a number 10, then we need two more centre mids in my opinion. I see Scales as Cooke's back-up and I'd be happy for Clarke and Evans to leave, even though the latter is under contract, as they might have been good once upon a time but don't contribute enough now.

That leaves Vernam and Crankshaw as wide players so we need another 1 or 2 to supplement them. Then at least one more striker, a right back and the rest depends on who stays, if any, of the out of contract players.

He's full of energy, I agree. He's had moments, I agree. I also agree that Watt has areas of his game to improve - but Watt was only 20 years old for most of this season, which is his first pro season. In that season, for a fair chunk, didn't he have one of the best long range passing completion stats in all 4 leagues and was strongly linked to a club that's now in the championship? Now that's proper potential, that's something to build around.

The bottom line is, we have to raise our standards across many areas of the pitch. I think we need a better starting keeper, a better starting CB than POC, 2 better full backs, a better starting CM to go alongside Watt, at least one quality wide player and one quality striker.

I'm not saying Sutton is crap. I think he's got a role to play. I'm just saying that if we're serious about a top 3 push, Sutton won't be good enough to play week in, week out. Our single biggest issue is in how we move the ball from back to front through midfield. It needs to be better.

I agree with nearly everything you say but I'm convinced our single biggest issue is fitness. We seem to either start brightly and fade or meander for 75 minutes and then play at a higher tempo for the last 15-20 mins. I think this is something Sparks has identified too. It always looks like the opposition is fitter than us. Get that right and then sign the right players as we both agree on.

Very good point. Tbh, we have so many issues, its hard to say which is our biggest..... we have to improve on many fronts...

Looking at your recruitment menu, then I think we need more than one striker (injury/suspension/loss of form/health/personal issues all often impacting on pitch time and goal ratio).
Donaldson, Novak and Clarke(is he really a striker) are all out of contract, Guthrie, Samuels and Rowe have gone and Cook and Burrell loan spells finish at the end of the season. An opportunity for a total remake in this area.

Sutton is a bench/squad player at best if we hope to go up automatically next season.

If Sutton is still an important part of the first team then we will be looking at a midtable finish as our squad won't be good enough.

We need better than Sutton who isn't that good at all.

Oddly Stuart was like that when I first saw him playing for the Northern Intermediates.

Headless chicken, but he was good!

We need an overhaul I agree. Donaldson will surely go, and I think Novak will to. Cook, for the right price, I'd keep. But we need 2-3 more, assuming Clarke goes too.

The whole squad needs massive surgery.

If the likes of Clarke and Donaldson are offered new contracts, it will say a lot about what our intentions are for next season.

Agreed but will we attract 2 - 3 decent strikers if we only play 1 up front? The best we can hope for will be 2 decent and a couple of squad fillers, leaving us open to problems if we get injuries to the key players.

If we're looking at loans, I'd like to see us target people like Elliot Simoes, 'a fast, direct winger' who Championship experience before being loaned out to League One Doncaster.

He was really unhappy apparently not getting first team football at Barnsley, so if we waded in with a season long loan offer it might suit him down to the ground - Barnsley have him til 2023, so actually a full season in League Two might make sense if he's going to get a lot of game time (which he probably would).

We might not get him specifically, but someone LIKE that.

Absolutely certain we need to load up on the forward/winger types next season.

Bets we won’t recognise 3/4 of the squad next season?

Not convinced by Watt at all. His USP seems to be giving away silly freekicks 10 yards out of the box in front of the main stand.
