Disagree Alex, I think the current squad is miles off being good enough to challenge for promotion next season

 

not as bad as you think. if the season started when T&S came in we would be 6th.

 

And have to suffer through 17 more mind numbing games like we’ve seen this season, no thanks happy for it to end now.

 

Fair comments, but the fatal flaw is that there is no way Cook will come back given how he's been so isolated since he came. Potentially he is a 20 goals a season man, but he knows that wont happen with one striker. two wingers who couldnt beat an egg and a number ten whose major strength is taking penalties.

 

I think if you'd been a City fan in a coma for the last couple of seasons. And someone had shown you the squad, without being aware of performances or results. Then you'd probably assume that it was good enough to make it into the play off places in League 2 on the names alone. Unfortunately, they aren't performing to that standard and I can't see them suddenly improving over the summer.

 

You say it's not a total rebuild but you've just listed 7 positions to fill and 8 or 9 players in total we need to bring in?

 

Not RoD’s fault at all. It was a management decision to play someone with no confidence in the catching crosses department.

I was just thinking exactly the same. This squad is nowhere near good enough to up.

To be fair you surely have to look at Trueman and Sellars full record this season and not just a gloomy snapshot. In 1983/4 Cherry and Yorath had the same sort of start to this season with 8 points from 15 games. They then went on an astonishing 10 game winning run and finished 7th, but that season ended dismally with just 4 points from the last 6 games including getting hammered at Bournemouth and Plymouth. I have no doubt that a 1980s Fordy would have demanded their sacking. The following season we won the league. Similarly after Parkinson’s first season when he only just kept us up there were demands for his head. I don’t know if these two will succeed, equally I don’t know if a Wellans or Adams would get us up, it will be all about budget and successful recruitment that determines next seasons fate.

 

The problem is at no point has Trueman and sellars been able to get us creating chances even when we had a good spell we created next to nothing

 

I'd be trying to clone Sutton. If we had a couple more like him covering ground, tackling, passing and contributing the odd goal, we'd be much better off.
