I know as Bradford City fans it's no consolation BUT today we saw what a manager can offer a club, Paul Hurst came in at the start of the season and not done too well with regards results and league positions, BUT you have to ask how a team like Scunthorpe (who have taken 4 points from their last 18) can turn up at Valley Parade and take a team with one of the best home records apart with their fluent inter passing and movement, the pitch today didn't hinder Scunthorpe they were a breath of fresh air compared with our attempted build up play, if they continue playing as they did today they will be in the mix come the end of the season.

Imo our squad is massively over rated by some on here, as if some other coach just walks in plays 442 and we win every game. We played 442 last week and were totally out classed to a lower end of the table team. This week we go two up at home to a mid table side and make them look like Liverpool second half, Bowyer might be crap, but the players need to start making simple balls and simple runs something they’re failing to do. And don’t get me started on the midfield ambling around most of the game, Palmer reminded me of Wright yesterday just jogging back for their second.

I remember McCall getting pelters from plenty before he was sacked, then we went and got even worse. Maybe we’d improve, maybe we wouldn’t. But I do know the players need to do far better than they did yesterday no matter who’s in charge. As Gary Jones alluded too yesterday after the game.

I was saying the same yesterday at the match. You would think they would be oozing confidence given the position we have been in all season. Yesterday, most of them looked like nervous wrecks, truly baffling

Bowyer and the club are right, we do need stability and we need to back the manager over the course of a few seasons, just like we did with Parky and just like some of the other high flyers have done in L2.

    However.

We need to back the RIGHT manager, not just the one we currently have.

Gary Bowyer is not going to produce the team we want in two-three season's time. He might get us promoted, he might not - but what is certain is he's already cast the mould, and the style he's going to try to get us promoted with is tedious, negative, and overly cautious.

I disagree with some posters that they would mindlessly back attacking football even if we lost, because they wouldn't - just like some didn't under McCall. But we have to get the balance right, and right now Bowyer looks like the wrong man to me.

    An empty stadium manager.

He has (or had) a good rapport with Stuart though. Maybe they might be tempted to have a pop. Its a great job with a talented squad. Just needs the shackles taking off and a new man to give the players hope

With you 100% ! I said that Bowyer changed nothing last season. He came in and we actually looked worse ! ,if that was possible ? But he managed it !. As for Rhodes hes the single thread running through all of this. When he and Lawn sold to the Germans you thought at last ! Now lets see the club without Rhodes involved see where this takes us. We actually made a great call when Stiart came back and the club appeared progressive again "there was life after Rhodes"

But then Rahic proves to be a complete wrong un and that figures because Rhodes had a hand in annointing him !
Then it all goes to shit and guess whos back like Dracula from the dead Rhodes ! ? Its like the Day of the Living Dead down there it really is.

Then Rhodes goes looking for a "safe pair of hands" and Bowyer arrives and at first you think well hes got Blackpool up ; decent enough guy but the reality is that hes no master plan for playing football; oh ! for a plan of any sort ? Rhodes gets in some half decent players on paper but Bowyer cannot get the best ftom them.

In my view Rhodes should end his association with the club. Not cos I hate the fella but simply for the sake of us all including his own family. Its time for us all to move on boy ! Is it time ?

But he has to make a decision now to part ways with Bowyer and Drury. Or if not Bowyer at minimum Drury who again is a constant in the mess of the last three seasons on the pitch. Can you imagine the likes of seasoned pros Donaldson and Vaughan taking their from him because I can't ?

Rhodes need to make a decision to end this chapter; though God knows where its going? But I do know this if he doesnt Bowyer fails and he wont be here in May. So we are looking at 16 weeks left for Bowyer because this is not working. So we either accept it and the inevitible bitter end ? Or we do something about it ?. I would be asking Neil Warnock if he was interested and he might get a suprise answer ? We are just the sort of club for Warnock at this time.

But the obvious thing to do is to bring back Stuart and let him take us on for the rest of the season. Who knows with Warnock as the Director of Football ?

If Rhodes does that he gets an imnediate bounce factor on and off the pitch. And importantly he backs up what is looking a faultering 2020/21 season ticket campaign.
Then when hes done that he needs to consider his own position.

But something has got to change in the next few days !

Good points and I agree that we need to re-evaluate our off field structure. It's all been thrown together ad hock and we are paying the price now. Rupp has to decide and with experience available for change, Rhodes needs to act decisively. Our support base is essential to our survival week to week and what is being dished up is an insult to anyone's intelligence. Get tough, get pro and kick this Club onwards with purpose, drive and energy and kill the negativity hanging over this regime for heavens sake.

Come off it now spouting this rubbish, for the vast majority this is an opinion formed over a lot of games not a knee jerk. Can’t you feel the life dripping out of us.

To get a win against either will need a massive turnaround Bowyer and Drury ar'nt capable of motivating this team. For Bowyer to say that he didn't see yesterday's result coming or he was happy with the result at Colchester is an insult to the intelligence of our supporters. He's in denial but are Rhodes and Rupp too.

If Rupp & Julian are even contemplating getting rid of Bowyer the next manager has to bring his own assistant from the off.

I posted this on a forum not too far away.... but its worth repeating as there's a real discussion that's needed around it, in relation to where we're going as a football club.

We absolutely need real change at the very top of the club. Rupp needs to either support a properly ambitious plan, or sell up to someone who will.

It needs money, but it more than that, it needs vision and a plan. Throwing money at inflated playing budgets should be something to get excited about in theory, but we mismanage it so badly and its such a short term approach, that we do more harm than good with it. Its my biggest gripe under Rupp - how does he think he's increased the value of the club? He's done nothing to strengthen the infrastructure, improve the value of the squad or take our standing forward. It's ALL gone backwards on his watch. Here's what I think he should be doing:

    1) First and foremost, appoint a Footballing Director that has a modern outlook and is both willing and able to implement a fresh footballing identify for what we're about. Based on current footballing principles of attacking, technical football. Not this 'if you work hard the fans will love you even if you're rubbish' mentality.

    2) Sorting the pitch properly. Yes, its the best part of a million quid, but its a key part of the infrastructure. So its not dead money, its value on the balance sheet. And its a pretty fundamental tool for playing football.

    3) Investment in coaching and training. Ideally, fund a proper training site - done properly, that's a financial investment right there. Increase the value of the club, or even lease it back to the club and perhaps open it up to other local amateur and semi-pro clubs, at a charge. but in the absence of that, suck up the cost of paying for a couple of the very best coaches we can attract.

    4) Pay for a professional scouting service. They're out there, and they're good. And they give you access to a wide playing pool, if you're willing to pay. the Central and Eastern European market is untapped - and they see the riches on offer in this country. Albeit, those riches are in the top 2 leagues, but we could absolutely offer those players a short term platform to boost their profile. I think many would be open to joining a progressive club, with large crowds and a decent level of media exposure - more than most in L1/2. Could be a great route to a win/win conveyor belt of talent and resale.

Get all that in place and you fundamentally position the club for success and you increase its value. It costs, yes, but all businesses need investment to grow.

I'd do it in combination with an open dialogue and PR campaign with supporters. Position it as 'I'm spending money on putting all this in place, to give you a club that can grow and be successful. That's my responsibility. But I'm putting nothing into the playing budget - that's the job of supporters. So prices are going up.' Worded a bit more succinctly than that, but if you word it right and position it as part of a proper plan for growth and success, you'd be amazed at how quickly the 'poor little Bradford supporters' mindset would vanish and how many people would embrace it.

There'd be a risk that the playing budget might drop but lets be honest, other clubs manage with far less. And if the supporter uptake is right, and the coaching scouting is done properly, within 2-3 years you'd start to see the benefits of better recruiting, selling on for profit and reinvestment in the team.

At least that's a plan with specifics. Something for people to get behind beyond 'lets hope we get back to league 1 and go from there'.

If Bowyer is sacked I want a proper replacement in straight away. I do not want to see Drury as caretaker manager.

Well we’ll see if JR is prepared to take decisive action while there is still in fact plenty of time for a new manager to save the season. Or let it drift. The sacking is inevitable now so why drift.
