Calling for the manager to be sacked 5 games into a season, with only 1 league defeat, is ludicrous, or a poor attempt at a wind-up

My second instinct is many will want someone who will be able to 'get the most out of our players, like Doyle at Swindon', but Vaughan is already scoring fairly freely and our defence is decent. Our limitations are our cheaper, squad players who were required to be cheaper because of the once-astronomical wage bill. I'm not sure someone is going to come in and get a lot out of Anderson, Gibson, Patrick, et al, but stranger things have happened (except they haven't).
My third instinct is that the repeated narrative that our managers are big meanies for blaming players for poor performances is nothing but a sign of player power, which itself is a hangover from the Rahic era (much like the appetite for fast and frequent managerial switches).
In summary, after 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats, there is absolutely no reason to hit the panic button - and I'd much rather we backed the manager than pandered to the whimsical emotions of a bunch of misfits who may or may not be complaining to ITK's that Bowyer is mean and nasty to them - it's probably the bad apples from last season anyway, most of whom are barely welcome at VP this season.
However, realistically to be a play off chasing side we need to be adding a few more wins - and over the next 10 games, the aim has to be something like 4 wins, 4 draws, 2 defeats or better - easily play off form.

Unfortunately, we seem to have a significant majority on here who have the same self entitlement issues as clubs like Sunderland etc
With Sunderland, at least they've got far more of a 'right' to moan - they're in a division that they rarely occupy, have a boatload of money (compared to the 20+ of their rivals) and blew it last season and are still as frustrating this season
With us, frankly I'm sick of the Bowyer doubters and moaners. Frankly, I'm struggling - given last season, to understand how much better they think anyone else would have done. Note, that none of relegated rivals are anywhere near us in the table - showing again, just what a piss poor and awful division this is, when you've been used to playing at a higher standard. It requires a touch mental approach, which is far more important that your ability - certainly in the first third of the season
It's the glass half empty moaning that does it for me.
Several examples. Here's just a three
- Very little about the fact that we've come back from a goal down twice in consecutive home games (something we hadn't done for 20 months) lots about our starts. Even criticism about yesterday, isn't totally correct - we actually played well for the first five minutes, t's lazy negative thinking to make out (as some have) that it was most of the first half
- OTT reaction to that poor 20 minute spell (from about the 5th to the 25th) yesterday, without remembering that goals often changes the tempo of a match and lots of teams, even the best ones, can be hesitant shortly after conceding
- Worries about our defending, without seeming to realise that Carlisle's gung-ho policy (in comparison to what we've seen!!) gave us loads of attacking opportunities, i.e. attacking wise that was the best we've played
This team isn't perfect, but we're sixth and have a never say die attitude that is remarkable when you consider how poor that was even under Bowyer last season. I don't see how anyone can't be anything but positively emotional when you see the 36 year old Donaldson still running for that final ball and doing the correct thing in providing the pass and then noticing he was too knackered to celebrate, having played 3 games in 7 and a bit days. I seriously haven't seen that since the end of the 2015/16 season
Clearly, as someone alluded to on another thread, Bowyer is been judged harshly, because he didn't save us from relegation last season. Now I get it!! Never mind if he's the right person at the right time - he was in charge when we got relegated so he's going to cop for it!!! Because someone has to don't they? As his critics (the half glass empty brigade) simply can't or maybe refuse to move on
I'd go as far to say that, to me, Bowyer is the best thing that's happened to this club since Parky joined and I look forward to getting the abuse that this comment will generate. I got it around the time we lost 4-0 to Rotherham, seven seasons ago, when I dared to defend Parky. I was happy to be proved right
I'm just pleased to have a team with a bunch of players who actually are motivated enough to run / chase until the final whistle. I actually thought it would take months, as Scunthorpe are discovering (until next week ) to get that true team spirit back
So far so good. We can do better and I expect us to do soInspector, Bantam Begins, Bantam Boy and 11 others like this. -

Holloway has been at grimsby for what? A month or so? And he has transformed their playing style from a ugly, negative, hoofball team to this. Their fans are loving it and believing again.
The board should never underestimate the positive impact a manager change can have. -
Didn’t we have this before with PP? His footballs boring he will never get us promoted and we draw too many games? The players he signs are rubbish. Why can’t he see McMahon et al are crap?
And then McCall? He’s rubbish. Draws too many games. Tippy tappy football. Plays law out of position, get rid of him he’s crap.
And ah look where we are today. Fantastic.
No manager at this level is perfect. Sack this one after one defeat is pathetic and I can’t blame Bowyer for coming off of twitter.
Not even out of August yet and this is what we get. Just give the next one a month to month contract. Be easier
This season his record reads won 2 drawn 2 lost 1. That’s all that matters. Continue that form we will go up. I don’t care how bad we played in some games, that is our record in the history books. You can play like Barcelona and still not win a game, see Man City vs spurs other week.
Two new good players in last week who will add to the squad and once fit and in the side will improve.

Look, the relationship is gone! It's GONE!
The fans don't like him and he could win his next 5 but as soon as he loses that will be it the fans will be at him again.
When a relationship is over it's over!
You're making out he brought Messi in our something and let's wait and see what happens.
The fact is football is based on results and Bowyer's results are not acceptable and that's why he should be sacked now!
Do you think 4 points from 18 is acceptable?
See, I fully believe Bowyer has lost the dressing room and for me once that has happened it's utterly pointless keeping the manager. Pointless!
You've to remember after the Carlisle game they had a meeting, after the Mansfield game they had a meeting and no improvement. It's gone! You know football, it's over for the manager when the dressing room has gone!
Fans won't be going or renewing if Bowyer stays. The club is better of getting rid now, give out some positivity and get the fans back.
Every day that goes by the club are wasting time and money while Bowyer is in charge.

I was massively against this before today, but the team selection, tactics etc have changed my mind. He's completely stupid if he thinks we we're ever getting anything from this game playing 4-3-3 with a key striker out wide who's 35+ years old, Gibson who isn't good enough currently and Akpan and Devine in midfield doesn't help either.
Says it all when we have to throw Richards-Everton up top in hope of a goal. Pathetic from Bowyer.Broadsider, TallinnBantam, Craven Koppite and 9 others like this. -

Whether we win or lose, and we will lose, we should go into every game with the attitude of arrogance that we should be steam-rolling such teams. Whether this attitude is mis-placed is irrelevant, allowing us to implement such tactics as yesterday sends out a signal to the other teams and gives them a blueprint of how to play us.
We are at home in front of a massive crowd, for the 4th division, why roll over?Craven Koppite, Halifax Bantam, Bronco and 8 others like this. -

You wanted shut of him too.

I don't know what to think anymore.
It's all going a bit pear shaped and my early season enthusiasm is sadly waining due to inept performances and stubborn leadership.
Nothings straight forward as per usual and after years of supporting City you'd think I'd know better, but this season is becoming farcical yet again, from the state of our pitch to having an atmosphere area within the ground with unfortunately very little entertainment to cheer about.
Even the season ticket drive will fail dramatically if things are allowed to continue in the current vein.
The players need a good kick up the backside. Its about time they started to earn their lucrative earnings on match days.
I am seriously beginning to doubt Gary Bowyers managerial credentials at this moment in time. -

We're still a work in progress. We still have some dead wood to shift.
I think GB knows what he's doing but it will take time. Two of last seasons major disapointments have started the season and gone (Doyle and (hopefully) Scannell). I get the impression GB is trying to put players in the shop window by playing them. Just a hunch.
GB has stated on numerous occasions he needs 3 transfer windows to truly have 'his' team. But he's already strengthened our defense and forward line. O'Connor and Donnell look like different players from last season. In Vaughan we have a leader at last plus someone who can score goals. We have a couple of players coming back from injury that will add options plus we may get a couple more in before Monday. The glass is still half full for me. We're only at the end of August ffs.
We can debate team formations all we like but any successful team needs to be able to switch formation either to counter the opposition or play to its strengths. SM was succesful because he could change things in game just when teams were sussing us out.
I think if we ridgedly stick to 4-4-2 teams will set up to counter this. Especially when we play at home.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...Doodle, Idlebantam, baggers and 7 others like this. -
