I don't think it is unprofessional.. more than happy for any manager to call out any player not giving 100%

 

Sorry but that really is rubbish. You are suggesting Hopkin names a player in his squad who he doesn't rate or trust instead of someone who he thinks is better. Really motivating for the rest of the squad. Agents and other managers will be well aware of how much he is earning and if they do enquire will find out sharpish anyway. Guess what they can look at videos of his appearances too. He will never match his current earnings anywhere else at the moment. Hopkin is encouraging him to accept a lower wage elsewhere which is in City's interests. He is leaving the door open in case of an unlikely improvement. There isn't much else he can do. It is nothing to do with Hopkin's ability as a manager, everything to do with the ridiculous contract we gave Wright. Wright has a choice. He can see out his current contract without playing again or accept lower wages at a lower level but perhaps extend his career a bit longer. If he had any self esteem he would go with the latter option.

 

How is he wasting money? Are you saying he should play because he's on big wages even though he is the worse midfielder at the club?

 

What a pair of wasters they have turned out to be - to even be questioning whether they have the balls to be training correctly for the job they are (well) paid to do is a damning indictment on that plonker Rahic, but also on Riley and Wright as professional footballers

I don't think Hopkin does want to pay him wages at all - and neither does anyone else in the league it seems. His display in the Checkatrade match sums up why.

You saw that clip from the checkatrade game, right? Josh Wright casually trotting back, at half speed, alongside the attacker with the ball cutting through our defence, without even trying to block, tackle, close down, instruct the defenders further back on positioning...anything at all?

Fordy has seemed to defend Wright from day one which is strange as he slags off far better players who put in far more effort and haven’t been sacked from previous clubs for that very issue, they must have the same crap haircut or made up Merc or something.

O'Connor showed more in midfield in a couple of games than Wright has shown. Devine has had more good games in a city shirt than Wright also. As has Alex Jones, and Jake Reeves.
In fact I would rather see Hopkin have another go in a city shirt before I ever want to see Wright play in our midfield again.

 

Hopkin's comments weren't disrespectful in the slightest. He simply said if they want to go out and play football, then non league is the only option left for them. He's not saying they're non league quality players but just that this is their only option as he won't be giving them any game time.

It doesn't exactly say they are not prepared to train as the manager wants them to it say if they train correctly as in keep working hard and maintaining fitness then he will see.

 

I've seen more from Devine than Wright in a city shirt. You are defending the single worse signing of Edins reign.

 

In our situation we can't afford to bring on someone as bad as Wright for any amount of time. It Might be important to get them out, but not as important as league one survival. Which would be much less likely with him in the squad. The fact we have a centre back who is a better midfielder than him shows all we need to know.

 

Completely agree, football isn’t that important to excuse some of those comments.

The simple fact is wright is absolute dogshit and hopkin knows it so he wants rid. It's really that simple. That bellend edin was the one who made the mess. Not hopkin. He's just got the job of trying to sort it out and he's doing a decent bloody job of it!
