Was just going to start a thread "Wright, Riley et al- what now?"
Is this Twitter quote legit? Where and when did DH say that (news conference maybe?).

Can't see them featuring for us at all now. Riley may drop down to non league, but Wright? Incredible to think that Riley turned us down last season, because he wanted to fight for a first team spot at MANCHESTER UNITED. Can't even get in a bottom league one team now.

Suprised Devine and Patrick didn't move on too.

 

I'm really not sure what to make of his comments. I think it's obvious he doesn't see them as part of his plans, but I don't necessarily think he is implying they aren't training properly. I think he is saying so long as they continue to train correctly then the door may be open - either to stay or go. I think DH comments can be interpreted in different ways

 

I read it that the door wasn't closed for them, which is a much more positive message, but they clearly aren't players he rates. It's not a very unusual situation when a new manager comes in.

 

You get these type of people in all walks of life, wrong attitude, free loaders call it what you will, but DH feels as a manager they are not part of his plans. I would have though they have had frank and open discussion to come this decision.

 

Wright has been on Twitter this morning. He seems to find something funny.

How do you know that they're not giving 100%?

 

I would be laughing also and you would be if your manager wanted to pay you high wages but not use you.

You can't blame the players for their wages.

You can blame the manager if he can manage though.

Bradford City are not in the position to let high earners not earn their wages.

 

I don't think Hopkin does want to pay him wages at all - and neither does anyone else in the league it seems. His display in the Checkatrade match sums up why.

 

Well hopkin has got something right. And that is that Wright is absolutely awful. Thank God he doesn't get a place in the squad.

He might be on more than most in Div 1 I don't know and to be honest I don't care but the manager is extremely out of order.

He's wasting money that we can't afford to waste it seems.

 

But let's give Devine place and not use him.

Then let the footballing world we don't right two of our highest earners . Yeah, that makes sense.

If I was Wright I would think the manager is an idiot and I would sit on the wages.

 

How is he wasting money? Are you saying he should play because he's on big wages even though he is the worse midfielder at the club?

 

you understand that Hopkin isn't choosing to keep them here? he wanted them out just as much as anyone else. if no one will take them there's not much he can do but hope they continue to be professional, train well, and maybe try fight for a way back into the reckoning.

 

Watching him playing strolling back on his defensive duties showed he was falling short of 100% on the pitch - fordy.

 

I've seen more from Devine than Wright in a city shirt. You are defending the single worse signing of Edins reign.

 

I think there's still a place for Devine due to the EFL's rule about having a home grown player in the matchday squad. Wonder if Patrick will find himself a non-league loan for games.

I still think there is a career for Riley somewhere. He didn't stand out as especially poor in a team of poor players. He needs professional games to build up that know-how and should consider dropping down to get them. Wright on the other hand, is 30 this year and seems to be on a downward spiral - clearly no future for him here so should look elsewhere to prove that his worth.

 

You call it wasting money, I call it giving us a fighting chance of getting something out of a game by NOT playing him.

 

Not defending anyone.

Devine is wasting his career here.

As for Wright and other players Hopkin wants out I just think Hopkin isn't boxing clever in this situation.

The best way to get rid of players is to name them on the bench so the footballing world can remember them and bring them on here and there for 5-10 mins.

It's not to let the world know they're on high wages and don't rate them. That's just stupid for Bradford City and as I say no wonder their agents will be saying stay out and take the wages for NOTHING!!

 

He actually says 'as long as they train correctly' no keep or continue. There is no need to add that to his statement, he could have just said not part of the plans at the moment but you never know, or anything like that. Now in my view training is not an optional extra, it is part of your work as a professional footballer. He has also recently separated them from the main squad, which indicates to me this isn't just about ability or skill, but attitude.
