I said a while back that you won't be far from the league's salary cap. You have one of the biggest wage bills in the league. Rupp cant just buy his way out of this cap in any easy way, it would need him to gift the club £2mill just to add about £10k to the cap and a gift means he cant recoup it unlike a loan

Riley is an Abbott signing through and through.

Lets hope he takes him to Mansfield after chasing him for so long.

I suggest you have a full read of the EFL's SCMP rules and understand the difference between 'Relevant Turnover' which is the club's 'normal' or routine income and 'Football Fortune Income' which happens to include non routine income such as cash injections from benefactors etc.

For League 1, I think you'll find that the SCMP cap is calculated as 60% of Relevant Turnover plus 100% of Football Fortune Income. It's Sect 1.2 in the League 1 SCMP protocol.

Thus if the owner chose to give the club (rather than loan the club) £2mill or injected £2mill of equity, all of that would be eligible as part of the SCMP cap.

I don't understand what's happened with Riley. He came to us very highly rated, with lots of MUFC expecting him to do really well.

    What went wrong? Edin factor?

Well I would say we have a totally shot player devoid of any confidence. He may turn out to be great but i think he needs to move on and get is mojo back.

Tallinn, I don't think Stefan actually said what you seem to think he did and as a consequence the goal posts being moved, as you put it is hardly a runner so please don't fall into the @Fordy 117 Stefan bashing trap.
I don't believe Stefan ever actually said what you quote as "....he'd get us out of this mess and there would be money for players". If he did and you can point me to the source, I apologise in advance.

What I think you will find he said was City fans deserve much much better than they had got over recent times and he gave an undertaking that he was going nowhere and would continue to invest. He has done both as far as I know and can see. He has started attending more games, has had regular meetings with Julian Rhodes and staff and most important of all he is investing by cash injections (and substantial ones at that) to keep the Club afloat both last summer and very recently after his nominee Chairman screwed up. Were it not for that I think we would have been in Admin, or worse by now and certainly looking at L2 football next season or no Club at all. Make no mistake but thankfully we are past that now.

Before you come back and say why did Stefan not know what was going on in detail, that is not the role of an investor, they are more like the Shareholder in any commercial undertaking, parting with money and expecting a return, NOT involved in the day to day running. It is only when things start to be manifestly wrong that any investor or shareholder would express concern/start to be more closely interested and that is what has happened since last summer to the point where the investor has had to take matters into his own hands, just as Shareholders in a company can vote a Chairman off their Board.

Things went manifestly wrong in Stefan's eyes when Edin suddenly realised we were 'skint' (to use the words of Eric McManus and Pavlov elsewhere) and it all went from there but I don't believe he ever said what you think he said.

Not falling out just trying to be right, as I believe our Club will be eventually.

Even if its the full 100% you are still looking at needing about a £700k donation to add £10k to the budget. Does any businessman just have £700k they can give away with no chance of return? Hell no. His money will largely be tied up in investments and cashing those in which no doubt make a good return is asking alot and then leaves the club in a potentially difficult situation the year after that needs another cash donation. Thats the kind of actions that see clubs get into that endless spiral that bankrupts them. You can just about operate at the 60% of turnover level but above that it gets ropey unless you have an arab multi-billionaire as an owner

Such a shame we couldn't have been the environment to allow him flourish and make the change from the U23s to League One. Based on the comments i've read, he had a good work ethic, attitude and drive. So frustrating that we've managed to train all that out of him...

In the rough and tumble of league 1 what position is he most suited to? Hard to judge him fairly during the Edin Rahic shit show but the games he did play in he looked miles away from first team football.
U23 football gives little idea of how good a player is going to be at first team level. Even for accounting how bad we actually were in the first half of the season i would have expected to see some sort of evidence that made him stand out as potential prospect at league one level and i didn’t see that.
Hope the lad proves City wrong but its going to take a big turnaround.

Exactly. Look at how the U23 teams fare in the Checkatrade. Football at that level is a world away from first team, professional football.

I mentioned it over on the bringing back the u23's thread. The problem is at PL level atleast the 'reserve' setup has become unfit for purpose with the attempt to make it better for young players. Limiting senior players to 3 outfield and a keeper means most clubs only bother putting senior players into the u23 matches if coming back from a long-term injury. This means the young players are only ever playing against players their own age and that's a problem. Skill is only part of what makes a good player, there is a mental and physical side that needs to be developed and that comes from playing against players who have already developed those parts of their game. As I said on that thread Pogba is a good example, he bossed the u18's as he was not just talented but physically dominated everyone. When he graduated from the u18's the next level was still a reserve league back then and he struggled for the first half of the season, he was being bullied by smaller players than him who knew how to use what physicality they had effectively and to use his against him, he got better as the season went on as he was playing against experienced players but he needed another year at that level to be ready for first team matches but he had already been talked into leaving.

So with Riley he had been playing against his own age group. he hadn't had to develop certain qualities and suddenly finds himself in league 1 coming against seasoned pros. Then it wasn't helped by playing for a coach with no clue in a team where confidence quickly drained from them. So not only does he need time to adjust and gain the mental and physical side to go with his talent but he also needs a confidence boost to help him. If anything he needed to be joining now not in the summer where his confidence hadn't taken a beating and then slowly integrated into a team playing with confidence to help him develop as he is a player who talent wise is way better than league one

I'd heard slightly more but it's in the same ballpark.
