It is absolutely right that we are honest with players, and it sends a clear an unequivocal message. Of course they are still under contract so won’t be going anywhere until they can find another club, so I am not expecting them to leave immediately, but they have their careers to think about and need to be playing.

We may well be close to the FP rule, which is why we need to trim the squad before bringing in anyone. However, I am more interested in the loan players and how we keep those players.

That's what I mean mate, we've been told he will be backed and then we got told transfers will be agreed before the 1st.

No transfers done it sounds like we need rid of players before we can buy. So he isn't been backed at all.

Have you seen the size of our squad? Probably twice the size of any squad Parky had.

You’d be as bad as Abbott and Rahic if you were in charge. Scatter gun approach (like Scunny), recruiting the likes of McMahon who you deemed not good enough.

Rupps only fault was getting into bed with Walter Mitty. He’s paying for that now and has promised to put that right. The question is, do we recruit players to survive (accepting play offs have gone this season) or recruit with one eye on next year. Or do we follow the Scunny route and bring in a golden generation and have mass turnover again at the end of the season?

We need stability and evolution not revolution.

Jones gave it a go, unfortunately for him he'll always struggle for fitness. Good luck to him.

The other two good riddance, contributed nothing during their time in our colours.

Keep going Mr Hopkin, are squad is still to big even if we bring 3 or 4 in we need to get rid of 6 or 7.

    That is true.
A couple of months back we were told the cavalry would be brought in come January, hopefully before we were too far adrift.
Circumstances have changes somewhat, in the respect we've become one of the form teams in the division.
This appears to have made a readjustment in terms of required new personnel.
I understand the frustration of what seems to be the same old mid-season rhetoric of promised signings, only for a couple of loanees at most to transpire. However, it's looking like in this case it's all that's needed (certainly until the summer build)
20th spot is first and foremost the extent of our aspirations this season.
A slice of luck for Rupps pocket perhaps, as he's already covering a million pound deficit due to Rahic's madness.

I can't see McCarten returning unless Payne leaves.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Jones return to Port Vale.
Riley maybe a loan to the likes of Halifax, they seem to do well with our players.
and Josh, well, probably just leave the club with a mutual agreement.

Not if they don't feature in his plans. None of them have played since Nov, tells it's own story.

If we get confirmation that all our loanees are staying I will be very pleased. So one or two sounds just fine for me, if we keep Payne, Ball, and O’Brian. I would rather be pragmatic this window, and then see where we are in the Summer.

Yeah I know mate but they haven't featured as he is forcing them out.

I've no issue with that but our bench and some of the 1st team players are extremely poor.

If what I've heard abbot Rileys wages is true I very much doubt Halifax will be taking him unless we're still paying a huge chunk of it which would kind of defeat the purpose.

Indeed, if it is true he could be very difficult to ship out anywhere in league one and below without subsidising the club taking him.

One thing I do hope this proves to Mr.Rupp is that his money can be used more wisely.

I do wonder what a different experience he must be having after Rahic.

I agree with what @Fordy117@Fordy117 is saying. Rupp said he’d get us out of this mess and there would be money for players. How is that in anyway dependent on some players leaving?

Yes the squad is big, And yes there’s some deadwood. What if no one wants Jones, Wright and Riley (sounds like an estate agents!)? Does that mean we don’t add to the squad? If neither connected, get some new players in first, ones that are going to be starting games, and then ship out the slackers and trim the squad.

All a bit worrying to me, and I hear the familiar sound of goalposts being moved.

Yep, we were under the impression that a couple of players would be brought in before the barnsley game, so not long to find out if plans have changed.

Why do you think the reason they haven't featured is because he is forcing them out? Maybe they haven't featured because they are not good enough or can't play the way he wants, aren't working hard enough etc. and that is why he wants them out the door, with the added benefit that it frees up wages

This all might be part of Rupp supporting Hopkin. Hopkin may see the benefits in having a much trimmed down squad and therefore we might have to take a financial hit to move players along.

There is still plenty of time left in the window. The January window is an inflated market so I would understand the club waiting for the right deals. Hopkin has us playing well which has bought time as well. Loans will also have a bearing on what we need so we need clarification on that as well.

We can't afford to carry any superfluous bodies and anyway this is purely the result of DH's assessment.
