Sounds like he's looking to clear the desks to me. Why should be keep and continue to use up the budget on players who don't fit into his plans?
How you deduce that Rupp won't dip into his pockets, is beyond me.
Which businessman/Manager wouldn't look to save money on players that will be sitting in the stands for the foreseeable future?
You've already said the squad is poor, so would you rather we keep these 3 at the club and inflate an already oversized squad?

I don't believe Stefan ever actually said what you quote as "....he'd get us out of this mess and there would be money for players". If he did and you can point me to the source, I apologise in advance.
What I think you will find he said was City fans deserve much much better than they had got over recent times and he gave an undertaking that he was going nowhere and would continue to invest. He has done both as far as I know and can see. He has started attending more games, has had regular meetings with Julian Rhodes and staff and most important of all he is investing by cash injections (and substantial ones at that) to keep the Club afloat both last summer and very recently after his nominee Chairman screwed up. Were it not for that I think we would have been in Admin, or worse by now and certainly looking at L2 football next season or no Club at all. Make no mistake but thankfully we are past that now.
Before you come back and say why did Stefan not know what was going on in detail, that is not the role of an investor, they are more like the Shareholder in any commercial undertaking, parting with money and expecting a return, NOT involved in the day to day running. It is only when things start to be manifestly wrong that any investor or shareholder would express concern/start to be more closely interested and that is what has happened since last summer to the point where the investor has had to take matters into his own hands, just as Shareholders in a company can vote a Chairman off their Board.
Things went manifestly wrong in Stefan's eyes when Edin suddenly realised we were 'skint' (to use the words of Eric McManus and Pavlov elsewhere) and it all went from there but I don't believe he ever said what you think he said.
Not falling out just trying to be right, as I believe our Club will be eventually. -

Glad this clearout is underway, the squad was far too big and far too low on quality.

Wright has shown absolutely nothing. He hides in games. Jones - has shown glimpses but maybe Hopkin questions his desire, given how much time he's been on the Physios table. Riley - another that's looked poor. Maybe Hopkin feels that with Caddis and Mellor our right back position is covered, and Riley looks no better than either Chicksen or Wood. It's pointless keeping him around for the sake of it. And in the case of Wright and Riley I'd bet that both are on good wages.
Hopkin sees these guys in training. And in each case maybe he believes that some of our youngsters give more in terms of attitude and work rate, buying into what Hopkin wants.
It all makes absolute sense to me.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...Utters0, Mal Content, gildersomebantam and 10 others like this. -
If we get confirmation that all our loanees are staying I will be very pleased. So one or two sounds just fine for me, if we keep Payne, Ball, and O’Brian. I would rather be pragmatic this window, and then see where we are in the Summer.

I applaud Hopkin for this. There is 100% clarity with the fans and more importantly, the players know exactly where they stand. Compare this to the farcical nature of Hendrie, Killgalon and Doyle's departure and it does highlight how much more professional we've become as a club since Rahic fecked off.

You’d be as bad as Abbott and Rahic if you were in charge. Scatter gun approach (like Scunny), recruiting the likes of McMahon who you deemed not good enough.
Rupps only fault was getting into bed with Walter Mitty. He’s paying for that now and has promised to put that right. The question is, do we recruit players to survive (accepting play offs have gone this season) or recruit with one eye on next year. Or do we follow the Scunny route and bring in a golden generation and have mass turnover again at the end of the season?

A couple of months back we were told the cavalry would be brought in come January, hopefully before we were too far adrift.
Circumstances have changes somewhat, in the respect we've become one of the form teams in the division.
This appears to have made a readjustment in terms of required new personnel.
I understand the frustration of what seems to be the same old mid-season rhetoric of promised signings, only for a couple of loanees at most to transpire. However, it's looking like in this case it's all that's needed (certainly until the summer build)
20th spot is first and foremost the extent of our aspirations this season.
A slice of luck for Rupps pocket perhaps, as he's already covering a million pound deficit due to Rahic's madness.
I can't see McCarten returning unless Payne leaves.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Jones return to Port Vale.
Riley maybe a loan to the likes of Halifax, they seem to do well with our players.

Great post - the only thing that infuriates me is peoples desire to be constantly updated. Not sure there's any need to do it, if Rupp has put money in to stop a potential admin and hasn't brought it up in the media it's because he doesn't want it to common knowledge that he was involved in a business of his being close to admin?
You know for a fact if he had come out and said I put x, y and z into the club to stop admin people on here would of been all over his back for trying to be the saviour. -

In respect of ‘ex’ Manchester United youth players, we have had a number, who haven’t particularly done well with us, or progressed on leaving City
I can think of:
- Eddie Johnson
- Ben Muirhead
- Ritchie Jones
- Luke Hendrie
So being ‘ex’ Manchester United, is no guarantee of success.bantamdave41, wetherbywhaler, Inspector and 2 others like this. -

Jones gave it a go, unfortunately for him he'll always struggle for fitness. Good luck to him.
The other two good riddance, contributed nothing during their time in our colours.
Keep going Mr Hopkin, are squad is still to big even if we bring 3 or 4 in we need to get rid of 6 or 7.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...Utters0, Nick_W_, Damo and 1 other person like this. -
