I've just done another simulator and have us finishing 6th on 75 points setting up a play off tie with Stockport. It's going to be so close, finished with 7 points between 3rd and 8th.

Those last two games are so huge. On paper, facing Northampton and Orient are two or the hardest back to back games, but if we need something and come out of that with positive results for the paly offs, hopefully it gives us that morale boost to kick on.

Funnily enough I would prefer these two hard games rather than a Rochdale, Barrow game, we seem unable to raise our game against poorer opposition.

Looks like the auto's are slipping away. We aren't winning 7 from 9 realistically, which is what we need to get 82 points, the playoffs should be achievable on 75 points so 1.5 a game shouldnt be too hard.

This season is developing in a similar way to the 1979/80 season when we lost at Peterborough and results went against us on that day. That season five teams broke away and a bit like musical chairs the last team not in top 4 missed out and it was us. The five teams showed remarkable consistency and only runaway leaders Walsall faltered but they were so far ahead they went up anyway. This season it looks like 8 teams chasing the top 7 with only Leyton Orient starting to slip up,but just like Walsall in 1980 they are too far ahead for it to matter. Let’s hope we don’t miss out again and end up as the team in 8th place. One coincidence of both 79/80 and this season is that in both season’s we lost at home 2-1 to a hapless Rochdale, it cost us big time in 1980 and I just hope it isn’t costly again.

I posted at the start of this thread our fixtures for March. There were 6 games and of those 6 games I suggested 12 points would be the kind of return we should be looking at. We have gained 7 points in 5 games and had the final one cancelled. We are below par of where she should have been in my opinion in March.

I fear last night we waved goodbye to a potential top 3 finish due to only gaining 2 points from back to back home games.

Surprised Mansfield were nilled at home tonight vs Grimsby. They are eighth with one game in hand left on us. Four points behind. Great result for us, that.

4pts taken from our last 4 games. I expected around 8pts. We are undefeated in 7, but also winless in 4 games.

We have around 10 days now to get some rest, get the injuries cleared up and have a real go at the final straight. Really need to start turning these draws into wins.

Hopefully Derbyshire, Eisa, Osadebe and Walker are back for the Grimsby game to give us more options going forward - because we need them.

Grimsby wont be coming for a point. No fear of going down and look to far from a play off spot. They are pretty much there for the taking.

Hope Walker and Derbyshire at least are fit and ready for the Grimsby game. Costelloe not up to it, not seen much of Derbyshire but surely he must be a better option, also Walker is a massive upgrade on the ineffective Chapman.

When you look at other fixtures and that all the teams above us have to play each other, I believe that on the 15th April when we win at Rochdale we’ll be in the top 3.
Whether we stay there is another matter but not losing to Northampton will be key.

Derbyshire back and an early goal will not only give us three vital and much needed points v Grimsby but this would bring the players confidence back.......then who knows, a couple more wins and it would be a case of "everyone back on board the promotion bus" even it means getting it via a trip to a certain large stadium on London!!!

Date and time confirmed for the L2 play off final, Sunday May 28th and 13:30 kick off. Given there's a good chance at least 3 of the play off teams will be northern, going to be an early start and busy on those roads if we do get there.

Agree Dave, we have both 'served our time' at VP, me since my grandfather took me to my first match in 1955 at the age of 9 - I was instantly hooked!
Some of the best times were as teenagers with the rest of the lads eh? Having our first beer, travelling to the likes of Torquay, Brentford etc etc whilst bottom of the old fourth division, creating an atmosphere on the old kop and Bradford End, being driven around the City centre with Stafford Heginbotham sticking his City Gent stickers anywhere we could!!
I am still in touch with some of them, even after all these years.
    Great times!!!!!

I know it's just a bit of fun, but the YP's 'Supercomputer' forecast for the following 3 places shows how tight it might be ..

    6 Stockport 74 pts
    7 Mansfield 73 pts
    8 Salford 73 pts

A single result going against the current forecast can and will change the positions dramatically. With 6 teams chasing 5 places, it will still go down to the imo wire for the group of 6.

Indeed, Grimsby are very good away from home with 8 wins so far and we all know what our home record is like.

I posted this after watching them at Mansfield, the lad McAtee was vey impressive on the night.

Mansfield could only draw with Grimsby tonight so as we stand Mansfield have one game in hand but are 4 points behind us, on tonight's showing Grimsby looked a decent side.
