    Rupp and Rahic.

Cost the club at least five years, moments away from the championship, a couple of additions to the squad and letting the manager get on with it and who knows.

Instead we’re pissing about in the bottom division, banging on doors, seeing who turns up, freeing our top scorer and bigging up Kurtis Guthrie in the T&A.

Those two have cost this club dearly.

Zabica came on a free, Shaun Murray was decent, Colin Hoyle would run through a brick wall for the shirt and we got excellent money from QPR for George Kulscar who was another free signing.

Willy Top I'll give you but the list probably needs more thought!

For me it's John McGinlay. Huge reputation and scored for fun at Bolton but once we'd paid a big fee and got him on the hallowed turf it was clear the bloke was regressing rapidly. Special mention to Tony Adcock too, huge letdown after the great start. After that debut goal I thought we'd signed the ginger Van Basten!

Carbone??????????????? Loved the guy and not his fault he was signed on a ridiculous contract - fair play to him, he also helped the club out massively when we hit financial difficulties as a result of Richmond's madness.

Parky leaving along with his backroom staff. Didn’t realise until after he left that he took the pride of the club with him too....

Under Parky, a 35 year old bald guy from Rochdale was the perfect signing because he perfectly suited what PP was building. A string of low scoring, hard working forwards complimented the style he played, and contributed to the success of the team.

    All underwhelming on paper.

Since then, we haven't had the same success because we've bounced idiotically from one manager with one style to another with contrasting preferences and never really maximised the potential of a transfer window because we sack and replace AFTER they've shut.

Rahic is largely responsible for that, though we fell into the same trap when replacing Bowyer with McCall.

Going forward we need to be less myopic and work towards a common style and a common goal. Post-Stuart, we need a manager who can pick up from where he leaves off, and not try to reinvent everything in the minimum amount of time with a minimum number of changes.

Of course we've been all over the place in terms of recruitment, we've been all over the place as a club in terms of coaches and overall philosophy.

Absolutely spot on. Hands down, Rahic is (and hopefully never to be repeated again) the most expensive mistake this club will ever make. Given where we were both as a club, management and coaching staff, playing squad, culture and (dare I even say) business - he is the far and away leader.

Rupps million’s are only being hailed due to financing the mess that part put us in. I gave up thinking where we could have been a long long time ago.

Fans are never the reason a club stutters or goes backwards, it seems to have become a nonsensical fact on here. Every fan wants to the the club progress, only those at the top can change it. Charlton and Newcastle have has protests for years, it’s not improved their situations one bit. The club should always be took to task and held accountable, but fans not moaning enough or calling players crap unless they carry you to promotion is not a reason we do crap. Our fans didn’t demand under Richmond yet he brought a period of success, absolutely nothing to do with fans standards.

There is a bit of a myth with Zabica though. He made his debut in a game away at Reading (which was the day before Princess Diana died for those who like random info). We won 3-0 and played very well, Zabica included. Unfortunately for him, only 500-600 City fans were there to see it.

On the Tuesday we beat Town away 2-1. Edinho and Blake scored. Again, Zabica has a steady game. 4,500 City fans saw it.

Zabica’s nightmare came on the Friday versus Sunderland. A long range Micky Gray shot squirmed through his hands. His confidence zapped immediately. We lost 0-4, though to be fair Sunderland scoring 4 at Valley Parade was the norm for years. Thats the only game anyone remembers.

At the time we also had Mark Prudhoe who had come with a decent reputation from his time at Stoke but looked small for a goalie. I thought he was shite. In the players bat after the Sunderland game a couple of the head stewards who I knew at the time were talking to him. As a Geordie he wasn’t happy we’d been hammered by the Makems, but in his words “at least I’ll be back in the team”. Not exactly supportive of a team mate. He’d been in a sulk at being dropped by Kamara.

not long after Gary Walsh appeared. Still my favourite City keeper.
