Pound for pound, who have been the biggest let downs in City history?

    I'll start: Jamie Devitt.

Last season, Devitt looked a coup on paper, goal scoring midfielder and very different to what we had. One injury and one of the most embarrassing suspensions in memory, and Devitt etched his name into this thread.

McLean is an easy one, but who else had an absolute shocker?

McCartan or Reeves.....hmmmm Going with McCartan.

250k signing...Turns up like hes over weight...just never really got going. He was dreadful. Scored the odd decent goal but for me never good enough.

Since it’s going on pound for pound he’s the winner with no competition, paying a mil for a player back then was a big deal unless it was a big club.

    Not David Hopkin?

I'm interested in some of the more unlikely flops. I hadn't realised quite how pathetic Devitt's season was until I really started thinking about the actual facts!

Paul McLaren - signed from Tranmere - league above. He had topped the L1 assist table the season prior, so it was a bit of a coup for us in L2. We played Burnley in pre-season and one of their players hacked him down on at least 3 occasions - Paulinho was taking the piss out of the Burnley midfield. It was a friendly, but the referee had a word with their gaffer, Owen Coyle, who in so many words told him to take their reckless player off, otherwise, the next time he would see red - in a friendly, remember. The inevitable happened, Coyle had no choice and subbed their midfielder (Wade Elliot?) 25 minutes in after a thorough bumming by a player who shared their surname with a car manufacturer.

Anyhow, I digress, McLaren turned out to be a bloody crab - not once did he make a forward pass; fell injured and pissed off darn sarth. :joy:

Agree that both Kulcsar and Murray were alright.

    From earlier times:

Ian Banks -- good against us, bad with us, 180,000
Tony Adcock -- another stricken by the VP curse, 190,000
    Ian McCall -- forgettable, 200,000

We almost got our money back when moving Banks out. Lost 100,000+ each on the other two, though. Ouch.

Zabica came on a free, Shaun Murray was decent, Colin Hoyle would run through a brick wall for the shirt and we got excellent money from QPR for George Kulscar who was another free signing.

Willy Top I'll give you but the list probably needs more thought!

For me it's John McGinlay. Huge reputation and scored for fun at Bolton but once we'd paid a big fee and got him on the hallowed turf it was clear the bloke was regressing rapidly. Special mention to Tony Adcock too, huge letdown after the great start. After that debut goal I thought we'd signed the ginger Van Basten!

    Rupp and Rahic.

Cost the club at least five years, moments away from the championship, a couple of additions to the squad and letting the manager get on with it and who knows.

Instead we’re pissing about in the bottom division, banging on doors, seeing who turns up, freeing our top scorer and bigging up Kurtis Guthrie in the T&A.

Those two have cost this club dearly.

Parky leaving along with his backroom staff. Didn’t realise until after he left that he took the pride of the club with him too....
