Using the same criteria the Plymouth v Bolton Papa John final (Mickey mouse) attracted 80.000 we couldn’t dream of that sort of attendance.

Really. If we were flying at the top end of League One and got to a cup final, I don't think we'd be far off 40,000 at Wembley. Based on current crowds, VP would be a sell out most weeks at the top end of League One.

Success should be based on fans not performances. Yes baby. We played like a naive cabbage tactics team ….. but to be fair Bowyer. Adams. Grayson Arrrrghhhhhh we did better than we could have hoped

It’s genius, the football league should just award bonus points for attendances and then, put a minimum attendance clause into the rules covering promotion. I can’t believe I didn’t think of it earlier.

on second thoughts, what a load of nonsense. Stockport and Carlisle have earned the right to be there, we haven’t. All this is embarrassing (remembering some of our gates in the 70’s), glad the majority of replies seem not be supporting (;)) any implied criticism.

If we were playing in the Papa Johns final I doubt we would get 10.000

I agree. We apparently attract great crowds in spite of our results in recent years. Why is that? Firstly because the club is in a major urben conurbation with a huge surrounding population. Indeed it's the largest City in E&W without a club in either the PL or the Championship and so should already be at an advantage compared to our khazi league rivals. Secondly we have cheap season tickets which enab,es large numbers to watch football at a reasonable price. (As a comparison, Wrexham's adult ST in the NL is almost twice the price of City's!) Combining our relatively higher number of STs with the use of the 'official' attendance which includes all ST fans whether they attend particular games or not, does inflate our underlying attendances.

Despite our great attendances, we have yet to find a way to convert those attendances into the resources to fund a squad capable of earning promotion from the lower leagues. Meanwhile other clubs with lower followings have instead earned their right to play in higher leagues. They're doing something much betther than we do.

Anyone who cares for what another team takes to a playoff final is an absolute whopper. I mean top level, world class whopper. We ain't there, bottled it in the semis while they are getting ready for memories that will last a lifetime, be they good or bad result dependant.

We've seen off field improvements as the club is actually run as a business and not the amateur shitshow it has been run as in the past. On the field we start next season with exactly the same chance as any club in the division, whether that be hollywood Wrexham or batshit crazy Crawley. But being better run and the correllation of that and success means we should at least finish top than lower half. But as Luton showed today crowd sizes mean little when it comes the eleven players on the pitch.

All part of football. But i would rather be there tomorrow and lose giving all than bottle it in the semis like we did against Carlisle. Hopefully our signings in the summer bring a bit of backbone to this team.

    Possibly 25,000-28,000.
The other restricting factor seems to have been 2 tickets per Season Ticket holder. I guess that if you want to bring family, then being restricted to just one extra ticket, limits things. Trying to sort out say 14 tickets if you are in a friends and family group, when most want to sit together, is a nightmare. I have a friend who lives in the South-West, gets to a couple of home games a season and some in the region. He has brought his grandson. There is no way I could sort out a ticket for both of them, given the current system. Consequently people who would like to come, are precluded.
Had there been two weeks plus and more flexibility on the number of tickets available, then the higher figures, could well have been achieved.
Hopefully not needed next season, as we walk the league!!**so funny

Slightly surprised that Stockport aren't taking more than what they are. The lack of public transport plus the cost of the day (+ night if you want to stay over) is exactly the reason why this type of fixture needs to be played up north somewhere. It will be a poor atmosphere with only 40k in the ground.

Hoping for a Carlisle victory, I don't want to be visiting there again next season.

There was less than 40,000 at Wembley in 1996 when we beat Notts County but no one seems to mention that. Today's crowd numbers has been hit train strikes and a joke of a kick off time but fair play to both sets of fans.

I think Notts County took less than 10,000. They'd been to Wembley a lot of times in a short space of time. Something like 6 times in 10 years.

No-ones mentioned it because we took 30,000 and Notss took 9,000. I remember you could still see the words Wembley on the seats in their end.
