Well makes it even harder for us next season.

Let’s be honest Leyton Orient, Northampton, Stevenage and Carlisle going up in a season. Wow that was poor from Bradford City!

I agree. We apparently attract great crowds in spite of our results in recent years. Why is that? Firstly because the club is in a major urben conurbation with a huge surrounding population. Indeed it's the largest City in E&W without a club in either the PL or the Championship and so should already be at an advantage compared to our khazi league rivals. Secondly we have cheap season tickets which enab,es large numbers to watch football at a reasonable price. (As a comparison, Wrexham's adult ST in the NL is almost twice the price of City's!) Combining our relatively higher number of STs with the use of the 'official' attendance which includes all ST fans whether they attend particular games or not, does inflate our underlying attendances.

Despite our great attendances, we have yet to find a way to convert those attendances into the resources to fund a squad capable of earning promotion from the lower leagues. Meanwhile other clubs with lower followings have instead earned their right to play in higher leagues. They're doing something much betther than we do.

They're both taking 15,000 more than we are and they're the only numbers that matter

    Bradford population 530,000
    Carlisle population 100,000
Stockport population 290,000 (added factor of being in Manchester)

Our population is more than both of theirs combined. 1:30 kick off in London at on a bank holiday weekend with 1 weeks notice. It's impossible to get to Wembley by train from Carlisle and only 1 train available from Manchester which doesn't get into London until nearly 12 so car or coach are the only available options. Both clubs have had issues sourcing coaches at late notice. Prices of trains and hotels the day before and/or after are massive so doing an overnight stay isn't really an option unless you want to spend big.

The embers of this season literally just burnt out and some have already written us for next season lol.
Let's see what players are brought in first. We have players still on contract that Hughes clearly doesn't rate, get rid of those and bring the right players in.

Whats this big fetish with attendances?

If you look at the finals including this one of the last 7 this gate will be in the middle. 2 were higher (one involved Coventry on one of their first trips since 1987) two were during Covid, however Morecambe would have taken few more, and two didn't hit 25k.

But who cares? They are taking more than we are.

Anyone who cares for what another team takes to a playoff final is an absolute whopper. I mean top level, world class whopper. We ain't there, bottled it in the semis while they are getting ready for memories that will last a lifetime, be they good or bad result dependant.

We wouldn't. We would probably have took about 25k.
1 week turnaround, early afternoon kick off on a Sunday.

Really. If we were flying at the top end of League One and got to a cup final, I don't think we'd be far off 40,000 at Wembley. Based on current crowds, VP would be a sell out most weeks at the top end of League One.

It’s genius, the football league should just award bonus points for attendances and then, put a minimum attendance clause into the rules covering promotion. I can’t believe I didn’t think of it earlier.

on second thoughts, what a load of nonsense. Stockport and Carlisle have earned the right to be there, we haven’t. All this is embarrassing (remembering some of our gates in the 70’s), glad the majority of replies seem not be supporting (;)) any implied criticism.

All part of football. But i would rather be there tomorrow and lose giving all than bottle it in the semis like we did against Carlisle. Hopefully our signings in the summer bring a bit of backbone to this team.

I think Notts County took less than 10,000. They'd been to Wembley a lot of times in a short space of time. Something like 6 times in 10 years.

Gibson and Patrick have added real pace and directness to Carlisle since coming on. Both look better than most of our attacking options.

Seems Carlisle thrive when fitness matters. Stockport look knackered while Carlisle run at them.

We need a big improvement when it comes to our fitness, energy levels etc. Could you see Ridehalgh, Clayton, Smallwood chasing round loose balls on a pitch that big?

Might hint as to why we were really good at throwing away 3 points in the dying moments of games, didn't have the legs for 90 mins

We will have a budget big enough to escape this league whether it’s used wisely or not is yet to be seen.

It won't need to be high to be their highest ever in league 2. When they were in league 2 last time they were always amongst the lowest in the division so I wouldn't be too worried about their budget.

It is great for the club and players to take maximum fans to wherever you are playing but in the end what does it matter to the result. We have had record number of fans but it hasn’t made any difference. Great atmosphere and spectacle but we are still playing in lg2 next season.
