If you watch the Waddle goal against Everton he hits it around 35 yards out and beats Southall. Should he be on his line? It happens. No blame for Wilson, it's poor from us to let him take it quickly.

I remember Deano lobbing Dave Seaman with a quick free kick as well, although from what I recall he was a bit closer.

It was a bit disappointing from the ref. OK I can understand a free kick being taken from the wrong spot if it was somewhere between the 18 yrd and centre spot. The foul was clearly just inside the Peterborough half, there's a bloody big fat white line that tells you that. It was taken some 3 yards inside the Bradford half, again there's a big fat white line that makes it obvious.

Tough one with regard to stopping it being taken quickly as you're risking an early booking. Akpan maybe shoud've kept hold of the ball for longer and delayed that way.

With regard to Wilson, I was sat in line with the penalty area and don't remember his positioning being abnormal. You have to admire the execution from Toney's part because it did literally just dip under the bar. It was quick thinking and he carried it out perfectly.

What a player Toney is. They have some assets to sell.

Agree when opposition teams come and stand over the ball until their defence gets organised it so frustrating but we need to be smarter than Tuesday night, and I'd have thought that would have been something Hopkin would have addressed, you dont give the opposition time to take a quick free kick even though the foul was in their half and the freekick taken in our half with the ball still moving.

Is that Tim Thornton who hasn't done a show on Pulse for four years?

    Jason then.

Tim isn't bad on Sky Sports News to be fair but Jason is an embarrassment to radio.

He asks questions instead of letting the person answer he answers for them! What's all that?

Jason"So David what did you think of the performance today?"

    Jason"we played well didn't we!"

Oh and every match City fail to win it's the Refs fault! How bloody boring!

I think it's harsh to blame the referee for the free kick. Our players didn't exactly expect Toney to shoot, and I doubt the referee did either. If it's not looked at as a goalscoring opportunity by our players, you can afford the referee a bit of slack for not being a stickler in that area of the park.

I remember not to long ago during one of our home matches, when we took a free kick for offside in the opponents half. I think the refs just want to keep the game flowing and so long as people aren’t taking the mick, they’ll just play on.

Thats a very fair point Jon, only problem is when it leads directly to a goal!

I don't blame the ref, credit the player and recognise genius. If it had been in our favour, that's just what all of us would be doing.

Agree with all of that Ioz, no one (inc the ref) expected what happened - except Toney, and all credit to him as you say. What I meant is it is only an issue where the free kick was taken from because it led directly to a goal

I think it boils down to consistency other refs would have made teams take it again from the right spot. The ball appeared to be still moving - something City have been asked to retake free kicks as a result. Toney showed quicker thought than our players- who have to improve in this aspect of their play.

Agreed - but the referee isn't paid very good money to prevent the opponents scoring - our team are, and they weren't concentrating either :)

The fault, primarily, lies with the players - our argument against the goal would be stronger if we had done everything right, yet they still scored because of the extra yard/moving ball.

Apologies if this as been mentioned in other threads, but who were the bellends who ran on the pitch and tackled George Miller when he scored. The lad went down injured and nearly needed treatment from the physio

Toney’s Goal was cheeky, genius and lucky in equal amounts but Akpan was nieve and the ref p*ss poor to let him take it with the ball moving right in front of him. We need to make our own luck tho!
