Peterborough replay

A bizarre evening. Lots of positives, oddly enough, but that defence!

And to say Henry's legs have gone is an understatement, shocking. In fact the substitutions generally seemed to weaken us.

Far and away Miller's best game, excellent stuff from LOB and Payne too.

 

Then you could say what about the cross bar we hit. That argument is irrelevant.

The ref made decisions that helped them win. Thats not right.

It is not just the defenders who are weak, it appears we don’t know how to defend as a team. We panic every time a team comes forward, it was like watching the Mad Hatters Tea Party when we were trying to defend, nobody seemed to take charge or lead,.very frustrating. We are looking like a team who can attack at will, which is good, we still need to be more clinical in front of goal. Enjoyable game, and a brave decision to play our 2nd goalie, dreadful to start with but I thought he grew into the game. Miller ran his socks off. Mellor did ok in his makeshift role as well. Henry is a long way off being match fit.

 

Is this a new procedure? must of missed the announcement.

Yeah you are right there is no way of officially appealing and i didnt mean appeal the result. I meant that there must be a channel to go down like the FA which you could write to and at least officially lodge a complaint regarding consistent poor decision making.

 

Knock yourself out. The FA are 100% behind their refs, they apparently have an assessor in the stand someone who reports back to the FA, I think it is other poor refs who do it.

Their first goal was laughable, I thought you also needed to blow your whistle before they could take the kick, I doubt Ben will rely on the refs whistle again. Another free kick he blew his whistle, then gave the play on sign, then stopped as our players stopped an absolute joke.

I understand we are conceding too many goals and that has to stop. But at this level what team don’t give away chances? Come on. We are not Liverpool and can spend 200 million on our defence and keeper and expect to keep clean sheet after clean sheet.

Yes we must defend better and stop conceding so many goals. But saying things like “they could have had two more” etc. Go and watch any game at this level and tell me a side who doesn’t give up chances. We have stuck 7 past majority of people’s here promotion favourites in Peterborough and we are relegation fodder

 

Caddis was decent at Peterborough. Everyone was pretty rubbish at Luton.

 

And against oxford.

Best of those 3 we signed on short term deals. Needs a full contract

 

Well I thought despite getting knocked out, it was a fantastic game. 4-4 after 90 mins with us having nearly 30 shots before the final whistle.

Even at half time with the score 1-3, I was pleased with how we’d played. Peterborough’s second two goals were well worked. Toney and Dembele are great players.

However we played really well going forward and looked very dangerous. Peterborough put bodies on the line in the last 10 mins and despite conceding 4, credit to them for that.

They missed two golden opportunities in extra time.

Overall thrilling stuff and the game was a pleasure to watch.

 

Despite the result I thought that was a fantastic game. Lots of positives going forward but shocking in defence. Chicksen seemed a liability. Every time they would attack I was expecting them to tear our defence apart, particularly with Toney. What a player! Although I was impressed with Caddis, just always looks knackered!

Up front Miller was superb. Surely he & Payne should be two of the firsts names on the team sheet.

The most frustrating bit for me was the lack of width in midfield and the inability to close the game down. At 4-3 they seemed to keep pushing for the 5th which leaves us vulnerable for the counter attack which our “defence” simply can’t cope with. Please just get the ball, hold it and pass it about a bit. Seems we just attack constantly to avoid the defence having to defend!

Sitting just behind the dugout it was interesting to see how involved McElhone was on the touch line & during the extra time pep talks. Certainly seemed to have the ear of Hopkin & the players.

 

Having just seen the replay of Toney’s 50 yard goal, brilliant finish, but inconsistent refereeing does my tree in. He took it 3 yards further forward from where the offence took place, and the ball was hardly placed down, and many refs would have pulled it back for a moving ball.

We said it at the time, but I was surprised no City players appealed.

 

I see where you’re coming from but it would have been suicide to sit back and invite pressure at 4-3. I thought the best form of defence was attack as we looked like we’d score everytime we went forward.

Ultimately their equaliser for 4-4 was the weakest goal we conceded in my view. The cross wasn’t dealt with and Wilson was caught flat footed.

 

It was a fantastic goal showing skill and a football brain two steps in front of our players, Technical moans over position and moving ball cannot excuse a goalkeeper miles out of position and the fact that unlike Peterborough who had a player over the ball for every free kick we took to stop it been taken quickly we were wandering round aimlessly allowing the free kick to take the keeper by surprise. Very poor team organisation but not surprising seeing the shambles of a defence that does not know the meaning of working together and a full back that is a liability

 

The offence was in our half so they should not havebeen a shot on?
