Most entertaining game i’ve seen for a long time. Have to go back a long way to remember an attacking display as good as that. Our front and middle six last night all played well as did Caddis. L O’B and Payne were 9 out of 10s and Akpan had his best game so far. Miller cause problems for both centre backs because we went down the line and turned the centre backs rather than allowing them to physically dominate. Mellor also had a goid game in a different role, something to look at again in other games.

Even though we lost, I had a great time at VP last night. It’s been a while since I have been able to say that.
One take away for me was that our defence is in desperate need of improvement, new lb & 2 cb’s on jan 1st please. Also Henry isn’t up to the task, am I correct in thinking his contract is only until January?

A great game for the neutral. A good attacking display from City, with some deft moves and confident play. Defensively we remain weak and struggle with balls coming in from the wings.
A very open game, with flair and fluid attacking on display.

Funny stuff on the night: Turnstile Chaos! We didn’t get in until several minutes after the kick off. A number of turnstiles ran out of tickets (they give them out) and promptly shut, with queues really pissed off!
Attendance. Announced as 3,486! I really felt it was around 5,000. They opened the upper tier of the JCT (we sat up there). The whole of the lower section apart from a few seats in Block F was totally full and a significant number in the top tier. The stand hold 9,000. Also Posh probably had about 200 up for the game. So really surprised at the low figure.
A great atmosphere for the game which must bode well for Saturday.
Walsall played 30 minutes less football than us but their players will have had at least a three and a half hour coach journey after the game, which in itself must be fairly knackering!

    Looking forward to Saturday.

What a mad game. Thoroughly enjoyed it and the overriding feeling is that if we can take that performance into the league then we should be ok. Still huge improvements needed in defence though.

The subs certainly weakened us. Henry didn't get into the game at all but I still think there's an influential figure there for us. Colville struggled showing a few moments of inexperience. Doyle was a downgrade on the excellent George Miller. Miller had their defenders really worried with his movement, surely the front three picks itself with Payne, Miller & Ball (worth noting that worryingly all three of these are loanees).

I thought Kelvin Mellor played well in that role on the right wing. It was better for the team to have an outlet to aim for and he caused problems both in the air and with the ball at his feet. It'll be interesting to see if Hopkin sticks with that.

    Bring on Saturday.

Dont get that playing extra time will have an effect on the players on Saturday. If they cannot recover between Tuesday night and Saturday afternoon, then they are in the wrong job, and as for a 3 hour bus journey being very knackering for Walsall players, deary me

After agree with most posts last night was unbelievable in every sense.
Fantastic entertainment and plenty of endeavour from City.
Didn't feel like a loss at all leaving the stadium which in itself was a nice change after witnessing so many poor performance at home.
Credit to all for that display a real team effort to the final whistle.

The down side on that is Peterborough will also be knackered - and they play at Shrewsbury, who are also well within our sights, in terms of where we need to be in the table.

Gotta' look at the bigger picture, bud.
I have worked many an awkward shift - and once home, I stay up for at least 2 hours, to unwind before bed. Therefore today would be 'written off' in terms of training ? Not to mention readjusting the 'body clock' ;)

Agree but where was our organisation in getting a player in front of the ball to prevent him taking the free kick. We see this by other teams.

I tend to agree with you in respect of extra time. However the coach journey for the Walsall players in my view is more relevant. Although they are modern coaches, after a good 90 minutes of strenuous activity your body will often stiffen up. If you have picked up a muscle strain/injury, then the sitting position may well exacerbate any recovery. Sitting in a coach is not the same as a shortish journey home.

One important factor to come out of the game is the "not knowing when your beaten" attitude. That's twice we've been two goals down against one of the top teams and come back fighting.

What a difference from earlier in the season!

It seems to be sinking in to the players that we simply can't afford to lose!

They have to fight, scrap, claw back every single result, because it's not just City's L1 status that's on the line, it's also their reputations and future bargaining power.

I am a fan of the quick free kick, but it MUST be taken from the correct place, this one was patently not.
Akpan even dropped the ball for him to hit it FFS.

Roger - I thought caddis had a shocker in the first half against the Peterborough winger Dembele but he improved in the second half, glad when dembele was substituted.

Don’t think he will be the only full back to struggle with him. Shame we missed him.in the Summer.

Funny i thought Dembele was average on the night. I thought Ivan Toney was the difference between the two teams, even Maddison was hot and cold. I think if we had Toney last night we would have won easily. Peterborough have some decent players but i don’t think they shine under the hoof ball of Evans.

Agreed. Some teams have someone stand on the ball until asked to retreat. Ugly but it prevents the quick free kick. Can't think if I have seen anyone booked for this since the '90s. Now watch one of ours get just that at the weekend.

There were several occasions after the goal, that if a free kick was awarded that the ball was picked up and handed to the referee!

Whether the free kick was not taken on the exact spot is irrelevant to me in this case. As far as I am concerned no goalkeeper should get beat from a free kick from the half way line ffs!!!
Obviously I wasn't there and have only seen a quick video of the goal, but what the hell was Wilson doing? Asleep, switched off???
