But they still 'hate' Man U and Chelsea even though not been in the same division for years.

For 'normal' fans (and I'll probably sound like an old hooly here!) who drive to games and don't visit town centres on match days etc it probably felt like there was no rivalry at all between the club's! But there was, Leeds used to come to nightclubs in Bradford and vice versa looking for certain people...

I lived in Queensbury in the 80s/90s when Leeds were doing well and it was full of them! Even though I'd been to school with most of them they still wanted to give you a slap for being City!!

I find it amusing that they say they don't care about us at all but as soon as Jimmy scores they can't wait to get to us and throw seats on their own disabled supporters!! Not the seats bit obviously as that is disgusting!!

Likewise Hudders, many run ins with them in the 80s/90s...remember Siglu got done over bottom of Manchester Rd. Only time I've been punched at football was at Hudders....by a girl...was a preseason game and was nice and sunny...walking up to ground and some Hudders behind us started singing about the fire..there were 2 of us so we turned around and asked politely to the lads would you mind stop singing that as people lost their life (it was polite as well as there were about 10 of them!) and some girl came and clocked me right side of the head from behind then ran off....laughed my head off, thinking only time I've been punched at footy is by a girl. Just a few years ago. Think coming back from Accrington (think Jackson?) we left a bit earlier than normal as getting stuffed so caught an earlier train. We live in Queensbury so get off at Halifax as its nearer. The train we would have caught if we stayed got stoned by Hudders fans at Halifax station, Windows broken, innocent people injured....

Irrespective of football divisions there was always naughty rivalry in those days.

Really good news. We need these two if we are to stay up.

On the rivalry issue I think some people are forgetting the brutal assault on city legend Ettiene Verveer back in the mid 90s. A lot of the animosity towards town stems from that.

They were even more unpleasant in the 70s. Your Leeds friends, who probably hate Man Utd, don't understand that one myself, are naive in not understanding why City fans hate their not so friendly neighbours

hope both stay but for me O'Brian is the one I would not want to lose great little player that could go all the way in the game .

But this is the bit I don’t get. If Payne is indeed an “asset”, why would Hoyle want him to go at all? Surely they should be tying him down to a longer deal.

BTW, he isn’t technically out of contract in the summer. He signed a 3yr deal at Huddersfield with the club having a 1yr clause to extend that if they wish.

Absolutely disgraceful headbutt from Tom Cowan. Should have had a life ban.

Both were excellent today. Praying both stay, along with Ball, beyond January. Great movement and constant threats.

………..along with that thug Gray who made the worst assault (refuse to call it a tackle as it was malicious) on Gordon Watson. Still hate the cowards guts even today.

But he is though unless Town trigger he clause and you don't know if that if Payne has to accept it.

Offers will come in for Jack and he will be sold if they're decent offers.

If no offers come in then he will stay with us on loan.

It's probably not realistic but I'd be moving heaven and earth to get Payne permanently in January. Build the team around him next year. Put a clause in the contract about any potential relegation if he's wary of L2 where we will agree to sell at the price we purchase for.

He is top class at this level.

I really can’t see us keeping Payne.
The kids is amazing and he is chipping in with goals too.
Really hope I’m wrong but I can see Sunderland coming in for him. Or another team up that end.
Our only chance is the fact that it happened last season to him with the swap from Oxford to BB and he found himself on the bench. They should leave him where he is if they want him to have game time. If they want to sell him then I think we are out of luck.

He is exactly the sort of player you can invest in and then make money on. Agree with previous posters though, I can’t see him sticking around if there is the chance of gaining promotion with a club like Sunderland. When they get cash for Maja in Jan they’ll be able to throw thousands a week in wages at him.....at City we’d probably struggle to pay his full wages?

Yes and some were saying earlier in the season Payne is a luxury player that we can't fit into our team .

Crazy wasn’t it! He was always our most dangerous player even in games like Luton when he started on the bench. He’s so skilful he’s a joy to watch.

Couldn’t believe it at the time and argued against it.

Still can’t. He is immense. He glides past players and looks sharper than ever. 7 for season now in league?

The point being though Fordy, was that it is claimed that Huddersfield think he’s a promising asset. If so, surely they would activate the clause.?

Why wouldn’t Payne accept it? He’ll be on good money and will still have a dream of breaking into their side. In the meantime, he gets loaned out for the rest of this season and comes back to train with the 1st team in pre-season. Just as Cullen did with West Ham.

All subjective of course, but if he really is a talent, I don’t see why Town would sell him now.

Because he isn't in their plans. He isn't a top 6 level Championship player and Town if they go down will want to try to go back up.

Also it's football. Players get sold. If Town receive a decent off then they will sell.

Also this year option is nonsense. Say they offer it to Payne and he accepts. It's only for a year meaning Town will still end up selling him because he will leave on a free in a years time because he won't get in the Town team.

It's like De Gea, Utd triggered the year option but if he doesn't sign a longer term contract then Utd will sell him in the summer because they will risk losing him for free if not.

    Payne will be sold.

You don't often talk much sense but in this case I fear your analysis is correct.
Payne looks a world beater in L1 but it's a big jump in standard to the top of the Championship. If the Dogs stay up they won't need him and if they go down they'll want proven quality to get them straight back up, which is expensive, so they wont waste wages on hopefuls. Either way they won't use him so why wouldn't they cash in in January if there are offers?
I think our only chance of keeping him is if Rupp is prepared to invest big and build the team around him.
