Not good enough. Tactically poor, don’t understand that selection. Never looked like scoring even against 10 men.
Anderson and Gibson aren’t good enough, nor is Doyle.
Pointless having Vaughan and Donaldson then giving them no service.
On the plus side, it might give Bowyer more ammunition to say ‘I need a couple more’.
Day one, and it takes 3 or 4 to hit your stride, but this side won’t be good enough to go back up.

Not good enough! It’s as simple as that.
I know it’s only the first game but the acceptance of mediocracy from a section of our fans astonishes me.
The aim this season is auto promotion and on that showing we are a million miles away.
Why should we accept that performance / result as ok?
Can you imagine the upset if Liverpool are held by Norwich next week when they lost the title last year by 1 point!!
My point is that all league games count towards the overall total and it saying this doesn’t matter just because it’s the first game is nuts.

My concerns about our short comings and areas that need improvement arent just about yesterday.
On the plus side, the effort and fitness levels, the desire and application were much better than last season. We looked better at the back too, but I think that was largely down to Cambridge being awful.
It was an OK performance, but we'll need to improve a hell of a lot, and that means adding at least a couple more with real quality. We looked slow too. Need to add some pace.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...BradfordBanter, Dubois, The Evidence and 3 others like this. -

For the ones who seem to like the stats, Gibson made the most successful tackles out of every game in the whole of league two with 7.
Anderson the second most with 5 successful tackles.Briggus, borderlescott, bantamdave41 and 3 others like this. -

Do any of our older fans remember the last time (I think) we played Cambridge at home on the opening day? 77/78 season, we'd been promoted the previous season, we won 4-0 and I think all City fans(my 11 year old self included) thought that the good times were gonna keep coming..
We ended up going straight back to where we belonged to div 4
So I hope people don't start getting all dramatic on social media if we lose or getting carried away if we win comfortably. It's a long season. Up the Bantams!!Inspector, Batmanbantam, Rocket and 2 others like this. -

Didnt lose, clean sheet - glass half full.
Shame for the nearly 15,000 there that we could not get a win but in hindsight dont think its the worst thing that could have happened as everyone can clearly see we are lacking in certain areas and hope this will hasten the necessary activity - a scratchy win and we might just be playing a 'lets wait and see' gameBradfordBanter, Inspector, RonnieBrown and 2 others like this. -

Sunderland failed to beat Oxford at home today.
Any Sunderland fans saying they won't be top 6 need their heads checking, though.
We're probably in a similar boat. -
I wasn’t comfortable watching us going forward - it didn’t quite click - but people are spouting nonsense to say the players strutted about like too big for League 2.
Donaldson and Vaughan put themselves about but had little service if anyone is being truthful.YungNath, How, Rogered Tart and 2 others like this. -
Did I hear right when driving away from the ground Radio Leeds said some fans booed, it wasnt the best of games but booing ffs.

Was the most combative performance from a city team I've seen for a long time. We snapped into the tackle, Gibson in particular put himself about a lot more than I expected although he needs to work on his decision making. Palmer has an eye for a pass when he gets his foot on the ball and if we can get Reeves back, those two would make a great partnership. What we lacked was understanding amongst the forward line, a few times two players made the same run or flick ons were flicked out of the way of oncoming players. Vaughan and DOnaldson did the best off poor service, if that overhead kick had gone in it'd have been goal of the season already!
I swear to god somebody try and defend Doyle after today, out of position or not the best thing he did was get substituted. Absolutely atrocious. If we're going to play that formation Mccartan or however you spell it is a better bet which is bloody saying something. The point of him dropping deep is to be that link between the midfield and forward line yet he never did that once.On the plus side, We never looked like losing and had we had a bit more luck we'd have won. Defense was solid, Richards Everton is a monster he's that big. Even O'Connor looked good. the way we wanna play 4-3-3 relies on the full backs providing width and I don't think they're good enough to do that and defend as well so some food for thought there.
All in all for the first game of the season, we are by no means the finished article but there's more than enough there to build on. Anyone panicking or crying now is an idiot quite frankly. We've been through 4 managers in less than 2 years or something yet you won't give Bowyer the time to get it right, sacking managers willy nilly got us relegated with a whimper last season. We should have won, but for once we saw a team doing the basics right, which is the foundation to build anything else on.Inspector, CRASS, WilsdenBantam and 2 others like this.
