Agree-I posted similar elsewhere. Surely they should have been given a shout to turn or something?

Was the most combative performance from a city team I've seen for a long time. We snapped into the tackle, Gibson in particular put himself about a lot more than I expected although he needs to work on his decision making. Palmer has an eye for a pass when he gets his foot on the ball and if we can get Reeves back, those two would make a great partnership. What we lacked was understanding amongst the forward line, a few times two players made the same run or flick ons were flicked out of the way of oncoming players. Vaughan and DOnaldson did the best off poor service, if that overhead kick had gone in it'd have been goal of the season already!

I swear to god somebody try and defend Doyle after today, out of position or not the best thing he did was get substituted. Absolutely atrocious. If we're going to play that formation Mccartan or however you spell it is a better bet which is bloody saying something. The point of him dropping deep is to be that link between the midfield and forward line yet he never did that once.On the plus side, We never looked like losing and had we had a bit more luck we'd have won. Defense was solid, Richards Everton is a monster he's that big. Even O'Connor looked good. the way we wanna play 4-3-3 relies on the full backs providing width and I don't think they're good enough to do that and defend as well so some food for thought there.

All in all for the first game of the season, we are by no means the finished article but there's more than enough there to build on. Anyone panicking or crying now is an idiot quite frankly. We've been through 4 managers in less than 2 years or something yet you won't give Bowyer the time to get it right, sacking managers willy nilly got us relegated with a whimper last season. We should have won, but for once we saw a team doing the basics right, which is the foundation to build anything else on.

I'm sure Park will if you ask him nicely.

He'll probably say well he got off the pitch as quick as he could. Was the absolute weak link for us today.

Honestly, don’t let the negative voices on here cloud your view.

Some fans expected us to steamroller Cambridge 3-0, just like they did when we drew with Macclesfield the year McCall took over when we were relegated into this division.

It didn’t happen today, it is frustrating, but this wasn’t half as bad as the shit shows last year.

The stats don’t lie. On xG we deserved to win the game. An another day Vaughan scores not hits the bar.

We have work to do but we’ve made progress.

Frustrating thing is we're 2/3 players away from being a team who could've won 3-0 today. Desperate for a pacey striker, a left winger so creativity isn't left solely to scannell and a midfielder with energy and who can pass a ball. Hopefully Callum Cooke is still a target as he seems to be a bit of an all round midfielder.

Sounded like Anderson's injury may be a bad one which maybe the massive kick up the arse we need to sort the midfield out this week.

Some on here should read the postings after last season's first match at Shrewsbury , people were praising players and a manager who are no longer at Valley Parade.

I reckon one out and out shit house DM would do us, as then gibson and palmer could get forward more and hurt the opposition. They pressed together quite well as a pair and once reeves is fit, you can swap him for gibson if he isnt doing the business. Gibson just needs to work on his decision making, for all his hard work and effort today which was a very different player to what we've seen, he let himself down with what he did on the ball in dangerous areas.

I thought he'd improved his decision making and final ball from his performances in pre season but today was like the Gibson of old in that regard.

I was really encourage by the improvement in his overall attitude and performance, but you could see the old Gibson in him. Anytime he picked the ball up on the edge of the box all he wanted to do was shoot, despite there being several easy passes staring him in the face. I rate his confidence to shoot but he has to pick his moments much better.

Moving him into the centre is gonna benefit him massively as it forces him to work his arse off and be involved in the game. When he does that he's got the potential to be a bloody good player.

In our whingers defence, every club bar none have them. Go into the Sheffield Untied forum and look at the comments about Wilder after the first 4 games of his reign! Bet they aren’t pretty. A lot of modern fans don’t have a clue tbh, in the 70’s didn’t we beat Cambridge 4-0 opening day they got promoted we got relegated? Football isn’t as simple as some think. It’ll take fine Bowyer has said it himself.

Agree. At the moment I think he is trying too hard to be an individual hero instead of being a provider for a team mate in a better position. He needs to realise that we will love him just as much if he is getting a ton of assists as we would if he was scoring the goals himself.

On the razz so will keep it short.
Gibson: Hollywood passes don’t work in L2. Unless you can play them (in which case, you wouldn’t be playing in L2).
