Scannell and Gibson in a midfield 3? Dear God!

 

Scannell for Gibson

 

Bench warming probably, he's homegrown and we need at least eight. Noble is currently injured, Obiang has gone to Serie A, so he may well get same game time.

 

Not for me, both crap defensively but I think akpan has better passing ability.

 

Anderson is a better ball winner and more mobile A better partner for Palmer

 

I'm not saying that I prefer Anderson but think Bowyer does. Like I said I'm not sure defensive midfielder will be key, think GB wants to win games and is happy with the defence so will try and beat teams. Not sure about Akpan's passing!!!

 

Gibson has done well in preseason but you cannot play him and Scannell in a MF three and Doyle, Vaughan and Donaldson upfront - it is too attack minded. We need to win battles in midfield.

I think, unfortunately for Gibson, it will have to be Akpan and Anderson either side of Palmer, to try break up play, with Vaughan, donaldson then one of Doyle or Scannell. That gives us better balance.

I’d prefer if we signed a new ball winner but Akpan more suited to the role than either of the wingers mentioned.

 

I agree in principal with both yourself and #borderlescott. I do think Anderson will start but not sure if he replaces Gibson or Akpan. I think it's a 4-3-3 with Scannell, Vaughan, Donaldson, Anderson, Palmer, Gibson/Akpan, Mellor, A O'Connor Everton, Longbridge

 

I wonder if it would be more of a 4231 with Gibson being more of a central attacking midfielder and Palmer and Anderson/Akpan slightly deeper. With a front three of Vaughan, Donaldson and Doyle/Scannell.

Still feel short of options to change a game. Hope I’m wrong.

Hopefully Ismail is fit and we can go a 4-4-2, if he isn’t I’d go 4-3-3 and drop Scannell. Doesn’t fit into that system.

 

I think Gibson deserves his chance next week, his passing and work rate has impressed me this pre season. Most of his passes are done with a purpose and are consistent an accurate. Ball retention in this league is key to opening up teams and also frustrating them, causing them to make mistakes.

 

I’ll be abroad for this game. Is it possible to get radio commentary outside UK? Thanks.

Personally don’t see how he fits into that system. Away from home it would be different but at home to play quality attackers like we have would be good.
