I think the key piece is that Bowyer's budget has already been set. He knows what he has to work with and he can get cracking. He can prioritise the positions and players he wants to strengthen on the basis of 'worst case scenario' - i.e. if the contracted players all remain. £1m should be enough to secure 7-8 good league 2 players, which would make a big difference to this squad. I read the article along the lines of Rupp being willing to underwrite any deficit, and the benefit of any sell-ons are then about minimising Rupp's exposure rather than being a dependency for where the playing budget is set. All things considered, we look to be approaching the summer in at least something of a professional manner.

I have been calling out Rupp specifically over many months.
In respect to this article, which I can only take at face value, I'm going to give some due credit.
It looks like, Mr Rupp has covered £1.2m of debts and that he commits to covering debt if the Oliver Mcburnie sale fails to occur.
It looks like Mr Rupp is engaging in conversation around the club.
So all in all, at face value, fair play to Mr Rupp.rmbenson007, Hulmebantam, Stoneski and 4 others like this. -

It’s also not exactly a budget of 2.6m. It’s a budget of 1m and a starting base of 16 players who were abject failures last season.
There’s a huge amount to do to ensure we have a competitive squad next season. The difference been near the top, or near the bottom, will hinge largely on which of our contracted players we can move on.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Great read. Patience is the key. We are going to have to remind ourselves as we go along. As my other half just reminded me, a good manager can gain promotion on a small budget if he brings in the right players.

I’m not getting too excited. The budget sounds excellent and will be by far the largest in the League. If Bowyer gets it right then we should walk it.
I’m no Edin fan but the whole article sounds a bit like the club are blaming him for pretty much everything. Its easy to blame someone who isn’t their to defend themselves and it also appeases the paying customers.
I have no doubt Edin made a hell of a lot of stupid mistakes and I’m not defending him in any way.
Rupp having no idea about a 1.1mill overspend is laughable and I really have no sympathy for him. Only a poor owner would let that happen. While I’m glad he has covered some of our debt, do we have any idea if this is a loan or just a complete write off? That needs to clarified. It also sounds like the Wyke and McBurnie money will go towards the debt and if its doesn’t materialise then Rupp will again cover the remaining debt, again is that a loan that will eventually need paying back?
There were positives and I feel better for reading it but there are still lots of things that don’t feel right. I still don’t feel the Todd situation was explained correctly as Bowyer himself said he was a victim of circumstance.
We have seen this kind of communication from the club before and we all get giddy for a week or two before another meltdown happens. As explained in the article, I think we are all going to need a lot of patience. -

Though an offcomedon (I think that's the local patois) I read that and the phrase "cautiously optimistic" springs to mind.

Brilliant post.
Some very interesting comments, mostly Rahic overspending by 1.1 million, and keeping it quiet. And some people still think Rahic isn't to blame.

What a change of tack from the club. They have probably been a little too open about affairs but it is probably worth it if it helps in trying to rebuild the relationship with the fans, and helps get back some of those who turned their backs under Rahic, so well done to all concerned.
That budget is brilliant for League 2. It would be respectable for League 1. Some League 2 clubs' totals will not even reach our extra £1m, never mind the £1.6m already committed or the £2.6m combined. If I remember rightly, Lawn once said near the start of cheap tickets that commercial revenues roughly covered overheads and ticket sales would go to the playing budget, and it was in a year that we reckoned they both were projected around £1.3m, though I think the playing budget grew as the season progressed. That means our budget this year is twice one of the lower budgets in our last stay in League 2. Some other moneybags clubs might decide to chuck some money about but I doubt more than a few will spend more than us.
We should be able to sign half a good quality League 2 side. The problem will be getting the League 1 players we already have to do their bit or leave. I'm not certain either will happen but I'm happy to have Bowyer as the man to try motivate them. If Rupp takes some money back from Wyke and McBurnie add-ons, I'll have no complaints. He's done enough in setting a very good budget for Bowyer and doing it early. Hopefully, we can now start with a team of players next season that do not look like they've just met and dislike each other. A bit of good luck would not go amiss, either. We must be due some!rmbenson007, Tony Wilkinson, Onside and 1 other person like this. -

Certainly won’t complain at the budget, I’d rather Bowyer using the extra £1mil than Rahic still being here and him spending an extra £10mil!

Regarding the '16 players', I would hope that some of them can do a job for us next season. It will be Gary Bowyer's skill at bringing in the right new players, and blending them with some of the existing players, that will decide whether or not we are going to have a competitive team next season.Stop hovering to collapse...
