Positive that the club are taking small steps to rebuild relations with its fan base.

A 2.6m budget for this season - but 1.6m already tied up on contracted players. Our chances of success next season depend heavily on being able to shift as much of that playing debt on as possible....

    Brilliant post.

Some very interesting comments, mostly Rahic overspending by 1.1 million, and keeping it quiet. And some people still think Rahic isn't to blame.

    Definitely worth a read!

Great read. Patience is the key. We are going to have to remind ourselves as we go along. As my other half just reminded me, a good manager can gain promotion on a small budget if he brings in the right players.

True on both counts. There's nothing wrong with aiming for immediate promotion, and in many ways we need it, but not achieving wouldn't be a huge surprise and wouldn't constitute failure necessarily. We may need a season just to normalise again.

I think the key piece is that Bowyer's budget has already been set. He knows what he has to work with and he can get cracking. He can prioritise the positions and players he wants to strengthen on the basis of 'worst case scenario' - i.e. if the contracted players all remain. £1m should be enough to secure 7-8 good league 2 players, which would make a big difference to this squad. I read the article along the lines of Rupp being willing to underwrite any deficit, and the benefit of any sell-ons are then about minimising Rupp's exposure rather than being a dependency for where the playing budget is set. All things considered, we look to be approaching the summer in at least something of a professional manner.

That's one way of looking at it. Another, is that it does at least offer some transparency to fans, and I don't see it weakening our negotiating position because its basically saying 'we only have a million to play around with'.

All the fans need to know is we will be competitive. We could say what last seasons budget was and say it’s less than that and that this seasons budget is impacted by the players left behind.

Only Bowyer needs to know what he has to spend and what he needs to clear out. We don’t. Despite what people claim about the club being “more open”

There’s a fine line imo. It’s clear from every statement we have had Rupp is covering the debt and again reiterated it in this meeting. But the fans still don’t believe him, particularly on here. I’d tell them only what they need to know. The proof is out on the pitch.

it’s clear we want to get rid of what we have to sign new players as a league two club. Come on

Agreed. We've 'shifted' 11 players already - We need to shift at least 6 more .... Question is - who wants them ?

I think it is ok to release the playing budget. Agents can then be more realistic in their approaches to the club offering their players. Plus GB is fully aware of what the going price is. Furthermore, what none of us know is how much will be available to GB when players currently under contract leave.

Thank you for that information a good article. But I do think the clubs PR team need to push along maintaining and boosting the clubs image with fans and the general public.Just keeping us updated through the media along with social networking is the least we deserve.

Small budget? 2.6 million is a very good budget for league 2

Yes, my first thought was that the Club was being a little bit too open, but as @Faithful Bantam@Faithful Bantam has pointed out it hardly sends out a message that we are rolling in money.

And the information given out pales into insignificance when compared to Andy Holt (Accrington Stanley), who even gives out detailed income and expenditure analyses for individual matches.

It’s 2.6 million. Regardless of who goes. That’s what I read it as

I was thinking £1 million for new players, but you are right 2.6 million is a good budget.

He may do but he isn’t openly telling people how much they have to spend is he?

It’s still a decent budget for league two and agents will see that and what we’ve got and squeeze more out of us.

It would be if Gary Bowyer had that at his disposal but, as the article states, most of it is tied up with the 16 players still under contract.
