Fair comment Steve my only worry is for Labour to wipe out an 80 + majority they have to be seen as an electable party and although you say Starmer has restored discipline into his party that has to be tested as the next General Election gets nearer.
Both parties have large divides I believe the Tories will show unity even though if might only be for the up and coming General Election can Labour.

I agree. The only problem with these things is when they start to need investment which wipes out years and years of profit but that's the only negative.

Completely agree that it's a great solution but the left oppose it due the the removal of protections and the right eventually sell it to support free enterprise so it never goes anywhere. If you were setting up a county from scratch you would 100% build on that platform though.

Nah the Tories are a mess. It is clear to non fools that the show of unity is false.

Look at fishy the rat Rishi for example. He set up his Ready for Rishi website in December of last year. Clearly digging in to Boris's back. It's a divided party and this election is highlighting that. They won't be able to recover in time to put on an united front.

The public are now not idiots. They got fooled once. Twice just makes them idiots.

That's all very well @Fordy117@Fordy117 but like everybody else when asked for a credible alternative.....................silence.

    They don't need too though.

You judge those in charge. People so thick that they haven't worked that out yet.

No, they don't though. They don't run the country. Only thing they have to do is point out any failings. They don't always have to point out how they will correct them.

They don't have all the information at hand.

Currently under 12 years of the blues the country is a MESS! That's all you need to know and should be judging on.

They don't need an alternative. They are not in power!

Actions speak louder than words and the Blues actions have damaged the country no end.

Apart from Sunak, the rest are falling over each other to promise tax cuts, which will benefit the rich most. Tax cuts won't address the worst inflation for decades, nor the falling real wages not the massive cost of living crisis. And they certainly won't fulfil the 'levelling up of the north' agenda, which is now just a hollow, forgotten figment of Johnson's imagination as far as most Tory MPs are concerned.

After twelve years of Tory government we have galloping inflation, rising poverty, disintegrating public services and London outstripping the rest of the country in spending on infrastructure - thereby actually 'levelling down' the north and Midlands, rather than up.

Labour needs to massively focus on the huge gap between Tory rhetoric and what is actually happening. While the Tory candidates fight each other to be the most economically Thatcherite and are increasingly fixated by 'anti-woke' extremism, Labour must home in on the things that people really care about - the ability to pay their mortgage/rent, feed their kids, get decent healthcare when they're sick, have affordable/efficient transport to get to work, etc, etc. None of this parade of jokers will deliver any of those things.

The difficulty is, that what you consider a 'credible alternative' is different from what most people want. The Shadow cabinet contains a number of very competent people - Starmer, Nandy, Thornberry, Streeting, Raynor, Milliband, Reeves, Dodds, off the top of my head. These are all experienced, serious politicians who are perfectly capable of forming an infinitely more competent government than the shower of idiots and extremists that Johnson shamefully promoted way beyond their capabilities.
But, of course, you will just dismiss them all because they don't fit your preference for right wing, dog eat dog government.

It's worrying to listen to the potential PMs talking about tax reductions. Not one of them has said how a tax reduction of say £30bn will be funded. The inference is that it will be yet more borrowing pushing up the money supply and stoking inflation! And that's without the worry of our national debt already being in excess of our GDP. Do these potential PMs not grasp the economic significance of that in a cost of living crisis? Credit to Sunak, he at least has recognised that tax cuts could only be delivered once the economy is on a firmer footing. They are each promising the earth in different ways without the other side of the equation getting even the slightest mention.

Boris did a fine job of surrounding himself with sycophants and incompetents to protect his own skin. And shortly, one of them will be appointed as our next PM.

Not just me, majority of the country is 'conservative', we all know that socialism does not work not just in the UK but anywhere else..
I mean Nandy, Thornberry, Raynor...c'mon, why would anyone vote for someone that detests their own country and it's fellow citizens...?

That's just nonsense. More people voted for Labour and the Liberals than for the Tories, even when Brexit and Corbyn were pushing record numbers of traditional Labour voters into the arms of the Tories. So it's simply not true that the majority of the country is conservative.

Most of Scandinavia has had very successful social democrat/ moderate socialist government for decades. Until the global banking disaster crashed the economy we had the best standard of living, best healthcare, best public services we've ever had under Blair and Brown.

By contrast, twelve years of Toryism has left us with record debt, highest taxes for decades, galloping inflation, increasing poverty, appalling public transport (except in London), disintegrating public services and a richer than ever top ten percent who squirrel away their record riches offshore to avoid paying taxes or investing in our economy. If the Tories had deliberately set out, in 2010, to ruin the country, they could hardly have made a better job of it.

The idea that the Tories are the party of sound government and economic competence is a sick joke. The last twelve years have proved how utterly useless they are.

You are better than that, more people voted for Tory and the Liberals than for Labour....

It is, you are right, despite the pandemic and a war in Europe they have been reckless and wasteful..

So what? That's irrelevant. You said that the majority of the country is conservative. But they aren't. It's evenly split between those who vote Conservative and those who vote LibDem (ie social democrats) plus those who vote Labour (mostly social democrats and soft left/democratic socialists).

I was actually incorrect in saying that more people voted Labour + Lib Dem than Tory in 1019. The two totals are actually identical. But when you add in ScotNats, Plaid Cymru etc then more people voted anti -Tory than pro-Tory.

What is really ridiculous is that despite an equal share of the votes - Tory 46.3% - Labour + Lib Dems 46.3% - the Tories got 363 Parliamentary seats and Labour + Lib Dems got 213. That's a total distortion of the aggregate voting intentions of the British electorate.

So even with the extreme circumstances of Brexit and the worst Labour leader ever, the Tories couldn't convince a majority of the electorate to vote for them. They only won a landslide victory due to our undemocratic voting system.

Of course I'd accept it. I have no choice, because it's the system we're currently lumbered with. But that doesn't make it morally right or anything like democratic.
A system that rewards a party that got less than 50% of the votes with an 80 seat majority over the other parties combined is clearly not fit for purpose.
