I have to say getting Vaughan and Donaldson in has surpassed my expectations for who we might be bringing in by a long way.

Hats of to GB he's doing the business and Rupp too tbf both of these players will be commanding decent wages.

Nothings guaranteed but on paper at least we're only a couple of players off a squad that every other league 2 clubs fans would be very excited about. If we can get a couple more in and off load or get Riley living up to his potential I'll be a happy man. Got a touch of excitement back into me for next season now.

Vaughan looks decent for this level.

His last goal scoring season was a couple of years ago but I cannot remember the last striker we signed who had over 20 goals in one season let alone over 25.

Good pedigree and has spent the last few seasons at championship or top end league one. No brainier of a signing for me.

 

I think experienced strikers do well in league two. Look back over top scorers in last few seasons and a fair few 30+ in there.

Both Donaldson and Vaughan have been round the block a few times but I would take a calculated guess and say they are both still physically fit to turn out on a Saturday afternoon and give the young defenders of any opposition the run around.

 

God no. There could be a case made for McCarten although I think he's poor and nobody knows what his best position actually is. Patrick isn't even national league quality and needs binning asap.

 

Most of those apperances were in the Championship, I'd suggest when he drops down 2 levels he will find it easier at league two level as he showed at league one level with Bury, 24 goals from 34 apperances no guarentees but there is no doubt about his own footballing ability.

 

As we know no guarentees in football, then again were getting infront of ourselves as yet he hasnt put pen to paper.

 

I think Doyle is expendable if Vaughan comes in, but if we go into the new season with Vaughan, Donaldson and Doyle as 3 of our strikers - then I would be very, very satisfied.

One thing we didn't have was options. Doyle was an automatic choice and clearly works better with a strike partner.
