To be honest I respect Foulds for making the decision. It's clear as day Foulds ain't gonna get a game as long as the new lad is fit so for me he's made the right decision.

you know as a player if the manager likes you and maybe Hughes has been chirping up at him for a while and this has been on the cards.
players wanna play end of the day - fair play to him not being content to rot on the bench.
its a good move for him - close by, he has a young family, and the commute is doable.
i hope it works out for him and are a little disappointed we’ve moved him on to replace him by a 24 yo who has started only 12 games or something in his entire career. Is that really an upgrade on Foulds?simons (woking bantam) and Bronco like this. -

In our system we need width from fullbacks but other teams might not?
He was a CB at Bury/Everton I think. Being asked to bomb on at LB probably isn’t what he ideally wants - but guess he’s been happy just to get gametime even if its at LB, after a frustrating spell in Como previously, especially with it being at his hometown club.1975citygent and Bronco like this. -

How do you know, though, if he actually disliked Hughes/wasnt happy with the system/wanted a move to play CB elsewhere/thought his place was under threat anyway???
……..Nobody but the player truly knows, yet fans are jumping to lazy conclusions. you’d expect Hughes to say he wanted him to stay as it gives him more depth and options in two positions.NorthernMonkey and Bronco like this. -

I don't mind Halliday, but these lads we've been playing are all pretty ordinary - Ridehalgh, Halliday, Foulds, Hendrie... none of them bring anything 'special'.
Considering how much PL teams rely on marauding full backs (I know, I know, it's L2 not the PL), I'm kind of surprised it wasn't sorted at the beginning of the season.
Hopefully Boli makes a difference. Two Legs and WilsdenBantam like this. -

My view is that Foulds with a consistent partner on the left wing could provide the team with a wing back option. Perhaps not ‘out and out’, but his defending was solid.
Stephen Darby (legend) rarely crossed the half way line. I remember he did once or twice away at Wimbledon and I was so shocked, it has stayed with me.
Bola, may well turn out to be an excellent left back…….but given his age/injury issues it is a big ask. Same with Ridehalgh, opposite end of the age band, but recently been injured and perhaps slowing down.
With Foulds you got a solid left back, who given a partnership over a number of games, with a left sided midfielder/winger, plus coaching to help him extend his game, could have developed well.
In my view it was wrong to ‘ship him out’, there are other areas of the team which are far higher priority, in replacements. -

I find this comment from Hughes a little concerning as most fans would have thought the situation were in (trying to get promotion) we wouldn't bring players in who were not up to speed as they say especially a two lads who are returning from long injuries : “Liam hasn’t had a lot of training with the group as yet. Tolaji is probably a little bit ahead in terms of fitness and game time.

Our present manager is a big concern for me, after reading his comments in the T&A regarding Foulds. I bet that dressing room's a bundle of joy at the moment .

Som times journalists can be guilty or misrepresenting what someone says and the context of it, it's the only explanation I can come up with after reading Hughes 'comments' in the T and A regarding Foulds. Because the comments don't make any logical sense and the wording contradicts itself. I'd have preferred it if he had just said he wanted a left back with different attributes, cos it's clear after Foulds has been a starter all season that Hughes doesn't see him as his starting left back. Just be honest with players.
