On one game no one knows for sure. Other than one lapse at the back post, he had a steady and away game. However multiple posters , me included for many weeks , have said he’s regressed and not “ kicked on “ in footballing terms since Ridehalgh’s injury/ illness. We have missed Ridehalgh big style if truth be known because he could certainly whip a cross in and he supported his wide man on the overlap. Matty started off well, but as said earlier it was almost like he couldn’t get beyond the halfway line in his last 10 or so games. I don’t get this “ maybe he’s been told not to” when the full back on the opposite side does exactly that. As I said earlier, I’m certain that the coaching team feel the same, otherwise why get someone else in and not stand in the way of Marty’s request to go out on loan “because he wasn’t willing to fight for his place” . Why would Hughes make up such a statement?
Odd for sure , clearly there is a background I can’t think of anything else?

How can you forget Darbs wonder strike for the winner at home to Button during that sensational season we got to Wembley in the Capital One Cup ;)

Aye…. No great loss ,good luck to the lad. He’s done nothing wrong , however we do have plenty of cover . Clearly he wouldn’t be retained on an extended deal. If he gets one out of this , brilliant for him.

Halliday is just as uncomfortable at going forward as Foulds is to be honest. He’s a full back from the Darby mould, rather than a Meredith/Uhlembeek mould

Wow - tbh I think the complete opposite. I think Halliday is quite good going forwards but is not a great defender!

He’s clunky, not a stylish mover, for me! But opinions eh!

Especially when he has to defend the post from set pieces or corners.

I fear we now have 2 full backs who can't defend their post

The way the games going wing backs play a big part with regards attacking the opposition so to get a full back who can get forward whilst doing their defensive duties in league two is not a easy task, Darbs was a far better defender where as Meridith was capable of doing both disciplines.

We were weak in a number of early games at the back post for sure. Better of late, although County had one chance on Tuesday.

Yes to be fair it was early in the season, that was as good as header off the line as any defender would have been proud of.

Not saying he knew a lot about though? Maybe I’m not giving Lewis the credit he deserves but he saw it late enough to divert it away I think?

Thanks for the tip, I have just had a look , however I am yet to be convinced we shall see much of Yann or similarly Matty again. I could be way off beam of course .
If we do, then all well and good. Understandable they both need game time, Yann is so far down the order , I see it difficult to see how he would get much beyond the cameo role. Matt is the real puzzle for me. Stay safe.

I find this comment from Hughes a little concerning as most fans would have thought the situation were in (trying to get promotion) we wouldn't bring players in who were not up to speed as they say especially a two lads who are returning from long injuries : “Liam hasn’t had a lot of training with the group as yet. Tolaji is probably a little bit ahead in terms of fitness and game time.
