Except for weak throw ins what did he do wrong exactly? I wish someone would point it out.
How many times did he get o
Why, he’s a brilliant fullback according to some?

Poor throws for sure Dave but legal, unlike the one handed Stevenage thrower.

Ah I think I must have seen “Hartlepool” and read “Harrogate”. Should’ve gone to Specsavers!

While you're on Kev, what did you think of Bola? Big upgrade on Foulds? (and yes I know it was only one game)

It was only one game to go by….Can’t take a throw in, lost his wing back once from memory at the back post when the cross came in from our left ( 2nd half) , other than that he spent time in the oppo half far more than the old full back on the rare occasions when we were going forward. Not a bad first game otherwise.

On that performance I prefer Foulds....but then I am a bit old fashioned.... I think a full backs most important work happens in our half

The modern game wants more from a full back!

More importantly MH wants more from a full back. He did seem reluctant to make a run when he gave the ball to Wright who often had his back to goal and two men on him and needed that Meredith type of run outside to give him an option or take one of his markers away. Granted, defensively he was fairly sound but he didn't seem able to get beyond the line often enough. Shame, because he could put a decent ball in at times

The modern game requires full backs to defend and attack. 90 %of the fullbacks appearing at VP provide the front men space by overlapping down the sides. That’s where his game was poor imho. He just didn’t support his winger to the same extent say Halliday does. Both equally, using different merits are on a par as fullbacks whilst defending however. Its absolutely no coincidence that MH/GH feel exactly the same. That’s why competition in the form of Bola was brought in…..The rest is history as they say.

Wayne Jacobs was great at that, him and Beagrie on the left - what a partnership they were.

My view is that Foulds with a consistent partner on the left wing could provide the team with a wing back option. Perhaps not ‘out and out’, but his defending was solid.

Stephen Darby (legend) rarely crossed the half way line. I remember he did once or twice away at Wimbledon and I was so shocked, it has stayed with me.

Bola, may well turn out to be an excellent left back…….but given his age/injury issues it is a big ask. Same with Ridehalgh, opposite end of the age band, but recently been injured and perhaps slowing down.

With Foulds you got a solid left back, who given a partnership over a number of games, with a left sided midfielder/winger, plus coaching to help him extend his game, could have developed well.

In my view it was wrong to ‘ship him out’, there are other areas of the team which are far higher priority, in replacements.

    An interesting point.

On 17/10/2022 he gets into ‘Team of the week’. https://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/sport/sportlatest/23054500.bradford-city-defender-gets-spot-league-two-team-week/

Yet 15 games later he has ‘regressed’.

    Is that down to:
    • Foulds as a player
    • The team set up.
    • Left sided partner changing/not being up to it.
    • Lack of coaching to bring him on.
    • Health (low grade virus)
    • Confidence (i.e. different expectations on a regular basis).
    • Loss of form (which lots of players experience).
    • Issues away from the football (personal issues)
    • Injury (low level so not obvious)
If we had brought in a ‘star’ attacking left back from a League 1 or even a League 2 side I could see it. But we have brought in a ‘novice’ with a lengthy history of substantial injury.

Honestly is the replacement that much better, if indeed better?

I seem to recall when Foulds first came into the team he was much more attack minded.
Just to add to what you have said, I would have much rather tried to develop Foulds who is our player, than waste time getting a loan player fit and firing knowing he'll be gone at the end of the season. I also want my full backs to be competent defenders too.

We are in L2. I want a full back who puts the opposition winger into the second row of the stand :grinning:

Darby used to get a nose bleed when he crossed the halfway line. I think he only ever did it when he came to clap us at Wembley v Millwall, after the final whistle.
