And, as a matter of fact, his league assists were not even 7 (it was less than that). It was actually the same amount as Law, who Park has criticised for the past couple of years as ‘crab’, ‘never goes forward’, ‘only passes sideways’ etc. Yet they both ended up with the same number of assists that season

It was an awful miss and there were no extenuating circumstances. One on one with the keeper and near on 200 square feet of goal to aim at and he hits the 20 square feet within the keepers reach.

Clarke’s effort made Isiah rankin look clinical

I admit when I posted that I thought it was more than 7 . There you are I have admitted I was wrong when did you last do that. By the way the leading assister was Morais. I wonder who let him go and who signed him

I was told the situation with regards Morais was that he asked the club to release him as there was a Scottish club interested in signing him.
Stuart discussed it with Edin and Greg and they decided to release him, Phil Parkinson found out offered him a contract and he went on to be a big part of Boltons promotion push once he signed for them.

Good attitude to have for a footballer, unfortunatly we had McMahon to take our free kicks/corners etc but Morais was assisting every tme I watched, mind it does help when you have 5/6 players well over 6 foot.

    Ok, where do I start.

Firstly, he didn’t even get 7 league assists (it was 6, the same as Law). Although you have admitted to thinking he’d created more, you haven’t said whether you’d still go for him or not (bearing in mind his end product was no more dangerous than the fella you have been deriding for months.

Secondly, show me where you know I’ve been wrong and I’ll put my hands up. I’m happy to do so and, ironically, the McCall appointment being one. I said I didn’t want him back after his 1st spell, but he won me over and I admitted I got it wrong (unless you’re trying to tell me I was actually right afterall?)

Finally, Morais WASN’T our player with the highest assist. He managed zero assists whilst at City and 14 once he joined Bolton (including 4 in one game). And before you blame McCall and heap praise on PP for this, he managed 1 the season before (admittedly destroyed due to his injury) and 4 the season before.

It was 7 according to the official stats so your wrong there for a start. You were saying that Wright was given a more attacking role at Gillingham and I posted a link that shows he was.
As for Marshall yes I would have him back he seemed to involved in all that was good that season although I don’t know how much the bad injury he had last season has affected him. Morais I believe is available would you have him back.

Firstly, it was 7 assists in total but only 6 in the league, so I’m not wrong (and I’ve checked this on 2 different sites).

Secondly, despite only creating 6 league goals and scoring 4 himself, you’d have him back. But the player that was played in a role that was always less threatening, you were happy to bin because his output was poor? Yet they were almost identical? Weird

You did post an article (I think it was BBC or similar) but the official stats (which you mentioned above) disagrees and suggests he played most of his games BEHIND Oztumer, who was the attacking midfielder? So go figure. If he starts as an attacking midfielder for us this coming season and does well, I’ll hold my hands up.

Finally, yes, I’d have Morais back in a heartbeat. Always liked him and thought he was better than given credit for. He was another that was criticised frequently on C&B and I was in the minority when defending him. Some cheekily saying he was living on his Chelsea goal. We have no right winger or anyone to take set-pieces. I’d have him back over Marshall all day long

A good dodge 7 assist for the season. Without any doubt Wright played further forward that season.
As for Law I criticised hs negative play hardly got in the box hardly scored and often slowed down our attacking play.

In an ideal world I'd have both back, Marshall had more assists than anyone in our team in the 2016/17 season, 2 more than anyone else. Morais and Marshall are different types of players, one more explosive and dynamic and one steadier and better on distribution. Fil has burned his bridges in the way he left. So @BoingBoing@BoingBoing, let us have the wisdom of your knowledge as to who we can bring in on League One wages that will have the same or better impact than Markie?

Yet Law scored only 2 less than someone you claim to be our most attacking threat. And they both ended up with the same number of assists.

As for Wright, did you actually see him playing in that role? I must admit to not remembering him in the fixture at VP (when he scored), but I do remember Oztumer pulling the strings from an attacking midfield role

Firstly, where do you research your stats because you keep quoting different to what I’m seeing. I’m not disputing they are wrong, just interested in where you’re getting them from.

Secondly, why the aggression in your reply? “the wisdom of your knowledge”? WTF..! I said I wouldn’t be interested in re-signing Marshall, just as I said I wouldn’t try to re-sign Reid the season before.

Park then asked if I’d take Morais back and I said I would. Why would I need to provide any other names? Morais to hold down the right-wing slot and Robinson or Gibson to be the ‘explosive’ option on the left.

For what it’s worth (and I know it’s unlikely to happen), but I’d rather we didn’t play with wingers. Yes, have them as options, but I’d prefer 4-3-1-2 with Wyke and Robinson up top and Oztumer sat behind them. Like I said, unlikely to happen, but that would be my preference

I said I would when you provided evidence to confirm this. I’m not talking about a couple of sentences from a journalist; we’ve all seen some of the claims that Parker writes. I want you to provide 100% evidence from the player or his coach that they changed his style. And once you do, I’ll happily hold my hands up..!

Ask yourself this question would a defensive midfielder score 13 goals. It’s more than clear he played further forward that season

    Ok, what about this record;

    8 in 39 Championship games
    5 in 46 Championship games
    6 in 44 Championship games
    14 in 46 League1 games

Where would you expect this player to play? A winger perhaps? As an attacking midfielder? What about as a no10?

This was the record of a centre-back. So yes, it’s quite possible for a defensive midfielder to still score 13 goals in a season. I suppose it would depend on how he scored them. And as I’ve already checked this, I can confirm that he scored 1 from a corner, 3 resulting from long-throws and 5 penalties. So only 4 of his goals coming from a position that would indicate him playing further forward. What it would appear to show is that he is dangerous in set-piece situations, not that he was an attacking midfielder.

Unless you can provide evidence to the contrary
