Yes I’m sure Edwin will welcome back a player who rejected a big increase to stay the first time.

All players can have 1 really good game, it the consistency that makes a good player. The reason that Charlton are willing to let him go is that was one of his only good games this season and it came right at the end of the season then after that he didn't even make it into the 18 man squad for the Shrewsbury 2nd leg. If he played like he did in this match more often then they wouldn't be letting him leave.
From what Charlton players say Billy Clarke has been a much better player for them than Marshall has been.

Sometimes you have to hold your nose and jump in or otherwise stick something large up into your nostrils! Which sketch was that in Blackadder?

GREAT .............. But how many 'assists' did he have - if any ?
It's all good and well having pace and fancy footwork, but if there is no end product - what's the point ?
    Remember Omar Daley ?
The fastest player on the pitch - yeah?
But WHAT is the point of running like Hell and crossing, when your team mates have yet to cross the halfway line ?

Sumerbee and Beagrie didn't need pace - just great footwork and TIMING. Says it all.

Just supporting your some of your points really

But I'll clarify. Luke Oliver, could probably have walked into our team in January, but it doesn't mean that going to make us a team challenging for the Top 6

That really good game was against Blackburn Rovers at the end of April! Charlton lost both playoff legs because they didn't have enough of an attacking threat, a lot of fans were critical that MM wasn't included as he'd been their most creative player leading up to the playoffs.

He might not require the weekly amount he is on At Charlton to be paid by us. if we were to take him off their hands - we could pay part of it. If they are desperate then they may play ball.

He did have goals and assists, about 7 of each in the playoff season if I remember. I agree he's not the perfect winger and the end product wasn't always great but he's in League One after all! His other big asset was defensively, he always covered his full back regardless of which side he was playing so has a good engine. Funnily enough when Summerbee and Beagrie came to us they were both about 32 so based on comments on here we should never have signed them because they were on their way down! Ageism!

I must have been at a different player at the POTY awards where he won most of the awards. Sort of player that gets you out of your seat, i'd have him back in a breath.

Edin has not been the flavor of the month with my good self you may have noticed, but that is something I'd personally be very much against him doing.
We got a very good season out of him, he won the fans/players accolades and was offered money that matched Charlton's I believe to stay with Bradford City, sorry when you become a professional footballer sometimes it may mean you have to be away from your family and I can understand at times it may not be the best, but no way would I be suggesting bringing him back, and certainly not for the money the club offered before he went darn sarf.

Neither is anyone else we sign though. The point is that Mark Marshall is probably good enough to keep us near enough to the top 6 to be in with a shout. The majority of other targets, probably aren't.

I understand the scepticism towards Marshall but if we bring in better, given what we know, I'd be very surprised. That's why I'm in the corner of "better the devil you know".

A lot can happen in a year and player like him who relies on pace, age will affect him more than others like Gary Jones. Also he had a big knee injury last season which from his performances for Charlton seems to have played a part in him not being able to get up to the levels he did for us.

My opinion is yes he was fantastic 18 months ago but this was brought about by both McCall and his desire to earn a move back to London.
Neither are a contribution anymore so I can't see it being replicated.

Still doesn't change that it seems to be only one game all season where he got the levels he did for us, just becuase you have 1 good game against Blackburn doesn't mean you are a good player. Rouven had a good game away at Rochdale but it doesn't mean he's a good player. From Marshalls last 3 seasons it seems to me he's quite high maintenance and needs a manager to really put his arm around him and make him feel wanted for him to perform.
