Their model has only been in place for 6-8 months so it’s hard to judge. This is the problem clubs have - fans have very little patience so any long term change in infrastructure is difficult to do. Football is a results business so I can understand that people want instant results but it just doesn’t work like that. We are crying out for a director of football but we would need owners like the clubs that I’ve mentioned to give them the time and resources to change things. It’s Ok Ryan Sparks getting us partnership deals left right and centre and and giving the toilets a paint but if the product on the pitch is useless then all of other things are pointless.

Lee Angol was injured well before the transfer deadline, and we were short on strikers before that. I know how I would replace each key member of my team should they leave, with his history of injury I would have expected City to have a short list prepared, presumably the same short list from which he was recruit two months earlier. It’s a lazy excuse to say time was short. City’s recruitment failed, again.

It would be interesting to know if this was part of Adam's coming to Valley Parade, Turnbull had to go at the earliest opportunity.
I'm not sure at our level anyone other than the man who's job is on the line should be responsible for the incoming and outgoing of players.
Even more so with a guy like Adams who looks to give 24/7 to the club he's at, be that more training sessions or watching games etc.
Ryan comes across as a very thorough CEO but you have to ask after saying we are going to do things differently after his appointment did he get this one wrong, as I say above Adams doesn't come across as a guy who what's others involved with the football side of things.

True I also think Robinson could be a good and cheap signing when match fit would be good up top with cook

I think it is an interesting debate to have - the usefulness of having a DoF in League 2, but ultimately Adams had spoken. As he’s the manager, he deserves our full backing, especially since his time in charge is still in its infancy. He doesn’t seem to want to work with Turnbull.

The club talked of a restructure, I wonder if they are going to make more use of a performance analyst type man - who churns out data for signings - as that’s the way the game is going at the top.

With that and packages like Wyscout, do we need a DoF or even a network of scouts as was the case 20 years ago etc?

I’ve noticed yet another partnership announced this morning with some drinks company I’ve never heard of. Sparks loves these deals doesn’t he but I’m interested to know what it actually brings to the club? Is there any kind of revenue involved? I had a quick look online and saw Barnsley have these benefits on their website…
    • Access to players for player appearances
    • Access to our database
    • Access to fans
    • Invitations to networking lunches
    • Attendance at high profile Club events
    • The chance to network with major local and national brands
    • PR opportunities associated with Barnsley Football Club

I’ve a good few years with P&L responsibilities under my belt but not in football, I speak frequently with people who do know how to run a football club, including one of the teams you have mentioned and someone who works at one of our rivals from last season. Thanks you anyway Ferran Soriano

Well for me if you slag off a signing and the recruitment process, you should be able to put forward some names otherwise your argument holds no water. I know other people have a different view.

If you’re talking about mistakes in terms of signings then it was definitely the correct decision to let Turnbull go as wasn’t it his job! If Adams was already doing player recruitment then it’s a total waste of money having a head of recruitment, if that’s the case you have to blame those higher up for not recruiting a manager who fits in with their philosophy. But as usual the club has no identity or long term plan, it’s trial and error as per normal.

Good point. Chances are they will be back down this season. If we were Peterborough, then our fans would be screaming blue murder about the amount they make on transfers and yet never achieve lasting success. Why do we sell our best talent, does the chairman ever put his own money in, what exactly (to the penny) has he taken out, is he really funding the ground, how much rent is he going to make us pay his company for it etc etc.

If Peterborough were the blueprint for lower league clubs they would have done a "Burnley" years ago. Christ, Peterborough is a far bigger town than Burnley.

Strikes me they are a club that on the face of it makes money on transfers (lots of it) but never actually really invest it back in a sustained push up the league. The new stadium only hold 4,000 more than London Road and will be owned by Embankment properties. Is that a blueprint for PL Football ?

The couple of years in league 2 were his first two when he took over the club, if only we had an owner who had a track record of having us a division sometimes two above where we were when he took over for 14 years. Can’t think of anyone who wouldn’t have taken that when Rupp walked in.

Some saying Sparks made no mistakes yet? Every appointment he has made he’s got rid of within 12 months! Some not even lasting 6 months.

Come on even Rahic had a better strike rate than this. He’s a good speaker but not much else so far for me. Lot of work to do.

Peterborough have spent marginally less of my life in the bottom league than us. 20 years v 21 years. Take out our two pl seasons and we have remarkably similar records in the last 55 years.

Let's hope the strategy also includes a budget to be able to compete with other clubs to enable us to attract our top targets rather than being left with 5th or 6th choices such as Robinson.

Oh to be able to compete with non league giants such as Chesterfield and league clubs such as Barrow

No suprise really my view is Adams should have all responsibilities of the squad just give him a budget to work off. Sparky will have enough issues to sort as CEO. January transfer window will be a key time . If Adams gets the financial backing we will go up. Promotion this season is a must .

I have to say that I have been disappointed with Canavan so far. Strong enough in the air, but too hesitant at times on the deck.

Honestly think Trueman just puts the cones out at training. Adams has a record of going in at club's and appointing a No.2 from within that infrastructure, we're no different.
He is though his own man.
I wouldn't think for a sec. any number 2 has much influence over him.
He appears to live & die by his own opinion's & record
