So with about 6 weeks till the January transfer window what are the thoughts of people regarding what positions we need to strengthen and which players are most at risk of losing their place in the side?

Forward areas and right full back my biggest areas of concern.
Specifically striker, Gillieads weird wide number ten position and creativity and goals from central midfield.
Need four to come in and be able to offer improvements, not as squad members.

Our problem is that we'll need to move a striker on to bring anymore in and the only one anyone would take is our best one.

I can't see us having 5 strikers on the books unless he moves to a system that incorporates two strikers.

Striker (who can play off a target man), midfield General (to replace Watt), right back (to replace Threlkeld) and CH to replace Paudie, goalkeeper.

Ship out, Evans, Kelleher, Watt, Lavery and one of the two keepers.

Five in and five out? I think you're being very hopeful.

Perhaps if we are reinstated into the Cup, we will have more funds for the January transfer window.

That segues nicely into the discussion of intent in the FA Cup - I promise I'll only make one post ;) I get what you meant @Bigrod@Bigrod about intent to cheat and how it wouldn't work in a court of law, but actually this isn't the same standard and when we were RE-instated in the FA Cup after being kicked out last time, it was for just that reason - we had failed to file the paperwork for Curtis Goode, we had actually made the error, but we got away with it because it was an honest mistake without intent - what I was saying was Exeter could easily use that, since we ourselves actually set the precedent.

Back to the window; yes, if we are given a replay, we could easily generate more money for those new players.

I do not think we need four new players; I think we need two. A goalscoring winger, and a versatile defender.

If we try to sign more, I fear we'll either go cheap or go for quantity over quality.

Two good signings will do me. One is already paid for by Crankshaw; the other, well... let's see. Someone might have to leave.

RW, RB and at least one more striker. Its crucial though, that whichever positions are addressed, the players who come in are of real quality. Signing more squad fillers like Lavery, Robinson and Kelleher will get us nowhere.

Oh and if they didn't have a history of long term injuries, that would help.

Think another RB is needed. Unimpressed by Threlkeld, i did find it strange that we got him to be used as a RB, given he hasn't played the position since Dec 2018. His spell in Europe he was a DM, he played RB 3 times for Salford then was solely a DM for the rest of his spell.

The midfield needs another option, i know people like Sutton, but he literally had maybe 80-90 good minutes a month ago over two games in the same week, and has slowly gone back to the 'forgot he was on the pitch' Levi Sutton we had most of last season. Think we just need to upgrade, but wont make any CM moves unless there is a clear upgrade.

I'd have said we needed a winger to run Gilly to improve or out the 11, but you can already see the T&A headline from an Adams interview when Eisa and Angol start getting minutes over the next month of.... "It's like having two new signings". Think they'll cover the two wide slots we've missed most the season.

Forward area is obvious, but given all our strikers we signed this season, i think you'll need one out before one comes in and nobody will take a forward who cant get into his new side. Especially when all 3 of Cooks back up has been injury prone. Expect maybe a young loanee from a PL/Champ club.

Worth remembering we can only have 20 players registered over the age of 21, by my count we are at 19. So we literally have one space for an experienced pro, then it's out to be brought in or youth loans to make up the team.

I honestly think a quality striker and CB would make a big difference. A goalscoring midfielder/winger and RB too - maybe Eisa could solve one of those problem positions, lets see.

The striker and CB roles are priority though.

Any of the Stockport team that played Bolton off the pitch last team.
Most of them would improve our team, no wonder Crankshaw left us.

You'd really want those Stockport defenders?

We got rid of a few we didn’t expect to be able to get rid of last January. Guthrie, DMH, Richards Everton which allowed us to bring in the likes of Canavan, Rowe, Cook, Crankshaw, Vernam. So it wasn’t a bad window last January and revived the team massively which at one time picked up 34 points from 15 games. Hopefully we can do some wheeling and dealing again.

You reckon Man United fans thought the Bradford City players that annihilated Chelsea at Stamford Bridge would have improved their team back in 2015? ;)

Stockport are 11th for a reason, they've only won 1 of their last 4 league games, and up until recently have struggled to score this season.

Not for me! Also, Scott Quigley is a journeyman forward who looked like James Hanson looked against Villa!

Decent midfielder who can hold onto the ball and make a decent pass. Too many times this season we have conceded due to giving the ball away cheaply.

I believe that both Robinson and Lavery are both on short deals, until January.
I would be looking to move on either one or both to be replaced by better if possible.
How long has Cook got on his deal?
For me, although the lad's a tryer we need better too, more mobility and clinical up front.

Unfortunately that doesn't appear to be true. According to the club's website, both signed 1 year contracts in the summer.

To me "forgot he was on the pitch" applies to Gillead every week. I'd be looking to upgrade several more before I got to Sutton.
