He's scored 8 in his last 62 apps at L2 level, as someone else said, he might have just found his level in none league. But he only signed a one year deal, so Fax will try cash in on him. Given he doesn't have long left and he'll go for free in the summer anyway, not a chance they'd have a 6 figure fee offered. Probably 50/60K would have them tempted

27 years old, dropped down to non league because he wasn't cutting it in league 2. Is he really the sort of player we need to a) get us out of league 2 and b) help us to stay in league 1 when we get there?

Yeah but these things happen and in League Two strikers with no history of scoring can still end up bagging goals Cole Stockton pre-last season had an even worse goalscoring record Waters has two seasons in League Two where he hit double figures

There is evidence Waters might be good enough at this level but it's a risk and he should be cheap if he's not cheap then for me it's a no

If we were to pluck any players from non league it should be a rising talent from that league. Waters has had plenty of chances in the Football League

Yeah i couldnt see contract length either.

tbf his name was suggested on here by another poster but I’ve just mentioned him again as he score two at the weekend.

he’s been in the football league before and wasn’t happy with bench warming but maybe he’s progressed since and could do better.

He has, but those other rising star types cost money I don’t think we have.

Cole Stockton is 27 and has a similar profile (https://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=63703), so if he (waters) is not going to cost an arm and a leg he could be a feasible option.

I suppose a lot depends on how much we got for Crankshaw and whether we have extra funds to add to that - eg maybe from FA Cup if we were to progress.

One step at a time, Petrov. We just need a player to get us out of League Two for now as we’re spending scraps and long term players with potential cost cash we are unwilling to spend.

We have to use our allotted first team squad places wisely. We are limited to the number of Senior players we can have.
In the past we have signed prolific none league goal scorers, Jake Speight and in particular Ross Hannah spring to mind, but they were unable to replicate the form when they were with us.
City also need to consider if a player has any history of injury, particularly one that is chronic and has a potential to recur.
Sometimes all that glitters isn’t gold!

If we are serious about going up this season, it would be extremely foolish to bring in any permanent players that might just get us there, but would then struggle to keep us there. We might be able to bring in a couple of loans until the end of the season that could increase our chances of promotion, but any player we are signing on an 18 month contract or longer has to be good enough to cut it in league 1 for me. If not it's a wasted signing imo.

It depends on the price IMO. I’d chuck 75k at anyone who knows where the net is just to get us up as I think a finisher is all we are lacking.

I think we’d recoup that money many times over in increased revenue next year and wouldnt be particularly bothered about recouping the fee.

but if we’re talking £250k+ sort of players I’d agree with you, they need to be L1 ready.

I think the club just needs a kick start short term and a better finisher would give us that.

Fair point RE injuries. They are the reason we've lost so much ground as it is

Remember Adams has enlisted his own trusted scouting team for exactly this purpose.Interesting to see what developes.

What the list develops and what the club are willing to pay and/or provide to attract the player, unfortunately might be two very different outcomes.

You’d like to think that work is done in the planning but we’ve been burnt by this before.

Adams has never been a big spender in the transfer market. I don't imagine he will be asking for the earth, just a reasonable amount to enable him to deliver on his brief of getting us promoted. I firmly believe he has already been let down on this once, if it happens again in January and the club aren't willing to back him, especially when we know there is money in the bank from the Crankshaw sale plus whatever has been saved on his wages since he left, plus the incoming money from the premier league, then shame on them.

I think it will be 2 or 3 loans in January. Adams said that he prefers to utilise the loan market in January as opposed to summer

Padraig Almond ? On loan at Exeter, decent striker at this level and a permanent fixture on the subs bench. Assuming he hasn't already played for Newport this season.

Thanks. I'd asked this question somewhere and was wondering how many spaces we have left because it feels like some need to leave before others join. I think Adams was hoping one or two of the young ones would go out for the season but that looks less likely now.
