Hopkin unhappy with Booing

I'm not saying that didn't happen, but on more than one occasion the exact opposite happened. Chicksen showed for the ball in space (and to be fair so did Caddis on the other side). O'Donnell was completed blinkered, ignored both until they were closed down, and then hoofed it upfield.

 

It was obvious that O'Donnell was under instruction to hit it long every time, Hopkin was even waving to him to kick it long, If it was not what he wanted he only had to shout to O'Donnell to throw it out.

 

To be fair, he had to try a different approach. We outplayed a few teams in December, but only because the opposition let us play our game. Since then, other managers have worked out our style and have countered it by giving us space at the back and squeezing through midfield and at the back. This means that when we have the ball, there is rarely an out-ball.

This is where Hopkin lets us down. Other managers have the ability to see a weakness and use it against us. Our reaction is to just boot it aimlessly.

Instead, the fullbacks should push up and create width, someone then has to go across to stop them, freeing up the space
I’m the middle again. But Hopkin and his ‘misfits’ can’t see that and instead just hoof it over the midfield. All well and good if you have a player up top that can play that way... but we haven’t.

 

Do I need expert footballing credentials to sit in the crowd watching hoof ball bypassing a midfield?

If Thornton could not work out that fans were pissed off with Hopkin for deploying those tactics, then it’s a brain he is lacking, not ‘football credentials’...!

“In my opinion” implies, Trevor has an opinion and Jason has an opinion. They don’t have to be the same you know.

 

And more often than not, it went in the direction of Payne, the smallest guy on the pitch, who was never going to have any chance of winning it.

 

That's more than concerning if true
Everyone could see that tactic wouldn't work if they had played till 7pm
Is our manager really the man for the job
we have no option at the moment but has he the credentials to eventually take us forward and lead us to safety

 

Yes we sit right behind the dugouts (top tier of the Sunwin) and you could see Hopkin gesturing to O' Donnell to kick it out as soon as we'd cleared the danger.

 

As i said to @Bronco in conversation, i don’t like losing as its part and parcel of football. What does annoy me is doing the wrong thing over and over again and not doing anything to address it. Honestly, with the players at our disposal, Saturday has to rank amongst the dumbest 90 minutes of football i’ve seen. If i have to witness that again it will force me to leave early, i’ve got better things to do with my time than waste it watching that.

 

I've said it before, and I'll probably say it again - O'Donnell is not all that. he's not as good as anyone makes out. it's only because he cheerleads and plays up to the crowd that anyone thinks he's any good.

 

Last weeks stat was he’s saved the second most shots in the top four divisions, not saying he’s perfect but goalkeeping wise I’m not sure what he’s done wrong given what’s in front of him?

 

Strongly disagree with this, he’s been one of our strongest players - easily. 3 out of the back 4 have been garbage most of the season offering little to no protection.

 

Think he is one of the best shot stoppers we have had in a while
however his distribution leaves a lot to be desired but there again
its also down to the defence to make themselves available

 

O'donnell is annoying he doesn't seem to see players in space when he first collects a ball so stands there with his arms outstretched then just boots it straight to the opposition and when they head it straight back starts shouting to himself but does the same thing over and over again.

 

Ricc, 1) he is a decent League 1 keeper so we should not expect more as we hardly qualify in that description right now and 2) we have positions in the team where its debatable we dont have 'decent' so keeper is probably not an area that needs priority attention

 

And Jason’s opinion was, that despite the pathetic tactics employed by Hopkin, the booing was aimed at the ref and the Fleetwood players? Just about sums him and the station up..!

 

No one forces you to listen to it.

 

Thornton is deluded if he thinks that, the boos were aimed squarely at HopkinS and his dumbarse tactics.
