But the players need to change the plan when they see it's not working. The worry is we have a mentally flaky bunch of around eight. Then there's Caddis who has a bit about him and the creative imagination of both Butterfield and Payne who at least try different things

The problem with been bottom all season, is that players simply start feeling sorry for themselves and have a 'not again' weary way of playing - rather than 'I'll sort this' response

Hopkin will be fuming after Saturday, but he has to support this fey bunch. Significantly, he alluded to the need to keep the spirit going etc

Doesn't mean to say we have no creativity in midfield.

If you remember Swindon passed the ball about beautifully at our place - did little with it, scored a breakaway goal and then reminded us and their fans, why they were going down

We've got too many 'inside' creative players - they fall over each other at times. When it works, it works well - it's too hit and miss. Hence the chance creation only comes when three or four passes are perfectly interchanged as opposed to an alternative, i.e. a winger's pace stretching the defence, which then creates space for the other creative players etc

Hopkin must be certain that Scannell will come back and be able to make an impact, for say the last eight to ten matches, as otherwise he has severely fouled up in not getting a winger

I'm not normally a booer but did on Saturday. I had a bit of a watershed moment. Not only did i boo, I waited till players came round and shouted at them, think it was why don't you play like you give a shit! I was also really annoyed at anyone nearby clapping!

I try be positive normally but there's only so much cr@p I can take!

Think basically I was just in a bad mood!

If we are relying on Scannell coming back to save us we are more screwed than I thought if by some strange stretch of imagination he graces the hallowed Valley Parade turf again and wonder of wonders puts over the perfect cross who is going to provide the finishing touch we needed a big bustling striker in January to give Scannell a chance to make his name
That like our chances of staying up has sadly passed

League 1 this season has very little creativity in it bar Barnsley and Luton. Portsmouth have shown how to get to the top with a game plan based around players that their manager wants, and this done in pre season. We have a midfield full of players who can potentially play in the championship and have played in the championship, but for creativity to work you need the whole team to buy into it and as i stated on another thread, our defence offers nothing in either defending or complementing the midfield and our strikers are average at best. Even on Saturday in the most dire of games we had a couple of decent chances yet you had no faith in either of them being converted.

Whilst it's all doom and gloom at the moment a look at how the bottom of the table has become it's own league gives a little hope. There's 10 teams in there who are as worried as us. Every point will count from now on and I still feel that with a few of them in freefall we might do enough to escape by default.

I agree, I posted after the draw at Burton teams up to Burton could all get drawn into a relegation fight.
the only trouble being we have to start getting results ourselves and if other teams around us get beat that's a bonus.

Three points on Saturday are crucial not only to put us in the mix but to get some confidence built for a tough couple of months.

Some sides in woeful form too and some have a lot of tough fixtures to come. Accrington not scored since Boxing Day in the league. That’s shocking.

I have wimbledon, Rochdale and Accy down now to fill 3 of the 4 bottom places. If so, have we enough to finish above 1 more side?. Im not yet convinced.

I agree. Your point about the defensive, with Caddis the exception, is a great one.

Classic example. O'Donnell is wanting to pass the ball to Chicksen who refuses to go into space. It's as though he doesn't want any responsibility

Oh. I think we'll escape. If Fleetwood and Wycombe are comfortable play off flirters, it says just how poor the rest are. I actually think Scunny and us, when everything is going well for us are the 8th and 9th best teams. We're bottom of the league for bottle, tenacity etc
