I was agreeing with your reply to another poster who had used Moyes as an example.

And we forget all about tactics, style, man management and everything else that a manager needs.

But most of them are shite thou . It doesn’t matter who’s in charge ,there not good enough for league one . The sooner we can get most of them of the books that’s when we can start judging a manager and start building again

    Payne
    Ball
    Clarke
    Butterfield
    O'Brien
    Wood
    Caddis
    O'Donnell

None of these players are shite.

Doyle has looked poor but has scored consistently at L1 level for other clubs, who haven't played him as a target man and continually hoofed long balls over his head.. NKP was part of one of the best defences in the division only two years ago. When he had a coherent system to play in and players around him who offered themselves to receive short passes he didn't spend half his time launching aimless balls forward.

The squad has plenty of good players but it is badly unbalanced, as we all know. Hopkin inherited a squad that was completely unsuited to the type of football he likes to play and never got a tune out of them. I'm increasingly convinced that the December blip happened in spite of his tactics rather than because of them.

The chances of another manager coming in, hitting the ground running and fashioning a functioning team out of this squad are pretty low. But, IMHO, they are better than waiting for Hopkin to think of a Plan B, which wasn't going to happen.
We have some decent players here who've been restrained from playing to their potential by unsuitable tactics. Our only chance of avoiding the drop is to bring in a manager who can get alongside the players, quickly work out their relative strengths and formulate a plan that works to them, not against them. Another disciplinarian won't cut it.

So a while ago there was the Crawley debacle.
Then since then we hated Evans and every time had the better of us.
Now the guy genuinely wants the job and to help us so why not!!!
I remember a certain captain of ours play for Huddersfield and manage them and we let him manage us too. So let’s move on and back whoever

I think we should hang fire and not rush into appointing a new interim manager, just wait until the one and only Phil Parkinson is sacked at Bolton.
Come back home Parky where you belong and give us back some great days and nights at Valley Parade.

    Sorry ?
Motivation without man management ? How does that work ?
And without comfortable tactics, how do you expect to motivate ?

Hmmmmm, you and I obviously see the Managing game so differently.

I would like to think people don't want him here because he flashed a member of staff. Nothing wrong with sticking to your morals.

You need to hang your head in shame, making a comparison between Peter Jackson and that fat slob. Whilst I don’t disagree he could probably give the players the kick up the arse they need, he’s got the morals of a turd.

Drury might show us a tactical masterclass at the weekend and we’ll realise that he’s the one to keep us up and take us forward.

I liked the post for sheer optimism. Aside of that, never going to happen I’m afraid. Stepping down two leagues, financially unable to afford him. It would be incredible news, but won’t happen.

    More chance McCall coming back!

Do they? I have been critical of Hopkin myself, but in no way do I blame him for the squad put together by Rahic and Abbott.

That said, he did bring in Anderson, who has played more minutes as a makeshift forward than the role he was signed for. He brought in a central defender and, after sticking him straight in, hasn’t given him a chance since. We know Clarke has quality but is he any different of better than those he is compared to in our squad. Then you have Butterfield who rarely looks like making a tackle.

The problems were not Hopkin’s making but his reluctance to play a short passing game and trying to stretch teams with any width is why fans turned on him

And when is that going to happen? Most of the names banded about on here have another year on their contracts. When Peter Taylor was here we had Tommy Doherty who made it clear he would happily sit in the stand for his last year when he thought we couldn't pay him off, we did through a Director loaning the money. This is different in that there are too many on long contracts at good money. We are where we are.

    He means Drury is the one to take us forward to the national league north;

    At least, thats my interpretation
