Coventry had to move miles away from Coventry when they had the argument in SISU over their £1.3m rent and spent several years on the road. They moved back when SISU went into liquidation and became a tenant of Wasps for about half the original rent. They were later served an eviction notice by Mike Ashley, who became the new owner of the CBS stadium when Wasps themselves got into difficulties. Coventry and Ashley negotiated a short term tenancy last year but only until the end of the current season. It remains to be seen how those negotiations on a new tenancy are resolved. But Ashley will certainly be playing hard ball.
Rotherham's stadium holds a little over 12,000 and ultimately cost £20mill to build and refurbish! Fortunately for them, the local council put some money in and it became a community owned asset. All non-footballing activities are under the control of the Council. Would we want a deal like that for a new stadium and would the local council even be willing to invest ratepayers money into a new etadium?
I'm not sure I'd want to emulate either of those clubs so far as their stadium arrangements are concerned.
I don't believe there is a simple solution to our situation. We certainly don't hold all of the cards. In fact, the only one of any substance we do hold is the option to extend the current lease arrangements. Whatever might happen, it's good to hear that Ryan and Gibb are speaking after so many years of silence with JR.Onside, Allotment Bantam, Idlebantam and 2 others like this. -

One thing is absolutely true in this. Derm Tanner is a very good and shrewd journalist and if this was tweeted on his own account rather than a fake one, then it has substance

I note the comment, ‘...but my love of the club has never gone’.
Just a very small and dead straight question, but how has that ‘love’ translated into action?
Has anyone seen Gibb at any Bradford City game since 2004?Eldwick Bantam, Botswana Bantam, RonnieBrown and 1 other person like this. -
Looks like jack knew nothing about it and the texts on his phone caused him to be distracted!! http://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/news/16342943.jack-tordoff-crashes-porsche-causing-delays-in-apperley-lane-apperley-bridge/

- It doesn't give him the moral right to play hardball, when he subsequently didn't get his way
- Maybe we'd have done what AFC Wimbledon have, although I wouldn't have like it as the time. My point is that fallow 2004 to 2011 period was largely down to his actions
It's amazing that anyone thinks he would be good for the club. Ask yourself where was he before in buying the club? He now sees the green shoots of a financially viable option (quite feasible that Rupp etc, will never get any praise at time as we might only appreciate what they've done for the club when they've gone) and wants in
Never shown any interest in the club before - but now he wants in, its apparently fine because he's not the current lot

Gibb always stated he would have nothing to do with City while Rhodes was still there.
He always stated that City never needed to go into administration at that time the club could have continued trading, it was Rhodes who put BCFC into a second admin.
Gibb's pension fund has been paid back many times over since August 2003 and will continue to do so on a 25 year lease. Do the sums yourself at £370,000 pa when he paid £2.5m for the ground then.
Really don't get your statement of "He now sees the green shoots of a financially viable option". It Doesn't make sense as he can happily sit back for another 10 years and watch another £3.7m go into the pension pot.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Whilst personally welcoming interest from Gibb and Tordoff, I am a bit apprehensive on how unsettling this maybe to all connected to the club, not least our new head coach Michael Collins, who is surely under enough pressure to get off to a good start to the season given the flak the board got for appointing him.
Seems a bit strange and unprofessional on how Gibb has hinted at his possible intentions through a local journalist, at such an early stage. We all love gossip and rumours, but surely the time for going public, would be if actual negotiations were under way. The way it reads, no approach has been made to Rupp or Rahic and Rahic seems to hint that any such approach would be unwelcome anyhow.
Be interesting to see how this pans out in the coming weeks and months.
Glad to hear Jack Tordoff is okay after rolling his car today in Apperley Bridge by the way.Wakefield Bantam, Doodle, Onside and 1 other person like this. -
Lets take this a step further.
- Apparently Gibb's pension Fund paid £2,500,000 for VP in 2002.
- £2,500,000 in 2002 growing at the rate of inflation would have been worth £3,864,400 using the Bank of England inflation calculator https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/monetary-policy/inflation/inflation-calculator
- If you received a 5% return having invested £2,500,000 in 2002 then after sixteen years it would have been worth £5,554,612.59. https://www.thecalculatorsite.com/finance/calculators/compoundinterestcalculator.php
- So far the pension fund has made £5,920,000if the figure is £370,000. A fairly good return!
